Job Summary: The Outside Shipping Loader is responsible for ensuring the safe and accurate stacking and loading of trailers for shipment to customers.

Essential Functions

  • Perform inspections of forklift, tractor, crane, and other equipment daily to ensure it can be safely operated.
  • Locate the correct trailer needed and use tractor to move it to the appropriate location in the shipping yard for storage or to the shipping building for stacking.
  • Verify trailers against work orders and perform quality checks and inspections prior to stacking and shipment.
  • Stack trailers in a safe and appropriate manner using the overhead crane or forklift according to stacking drawing.
  • Identify trailer models and verify trailer VINs and COs against final packet to ensure trailers are stacked appropriately.
  • Take pictures to document loads/stack conditions before shipment.
  • Build cribbing, blocks, or other materials needed for safe stacking and shipping of trailers using chop saw and nail gun.
  • Move stacks of trailers with forklift for staging or loading onto truck.
  • Use a computer to log truck arrival and finish time.
  • Maintain a safe, clean, and organized work environment.

Qualifications and Requirements

  • High School Diploma or GED preferred or other equivalent and relevant demonstrated skills and experience.
  • Must be able to be forklift and crane certified through Novae.
  • Must be able to read drawings and identify trailers visually.
  • Ability to be energetic and focused while working in a team-oriented environment.
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment while maintaining a high level of attention to detail.
  • Must be able to read and interpret work orders and thoroughly complete paperwork/documents.

Physical Requirements

  • Must be able to maintain safety while working effectively and efficiently.
  • Must be able to wear all required PPE for the position, including but not limited to safety glasses, hearing protection, hard hat, face shield, steel or composite toe footwear.
  • Must be able to lift and move 80 lbs. frequently.
  • Must be able to stand and walk continuously for a full shift.
  • Must be able to work inside or outside in all weather conditions.
  • Must be able to squat, kneel, reach, bend, stoop, crouch, crawl and climb frequently.
  • This position may be exposed to fumes, dust, and other outdoor contaminants.
  • Must be able to use hand tools such as chop saw and nail gun.
