What is a growth?

A Growth role focuses on driving the expansion of a company's user base, revenue, or market presence through data-driven strategies and experimentation. Professionals in this role often work cross-functionally with marketing, product, and engineering teams to identify opportunities for growth, run tests, and optimize the customer journey. Their primary goal is to accelerate business metrics by analyzing data, improving processes, and implementing creative solutions. Growth roles can include job titles like Growth Manager, Growth Marketer, or Growth Product Manager.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a growth manager, and why are they important?

To thrive as a Growth Manager, you need expertise in data analysis, digital marketing, and strategic planning, often supported by a degree in marketing, business, or a related field. Familiarity with analytics platforms like Google Analytics, marketing automation tools (e.g., HubSpot), and A/B testing software is typically required. Creativity, adaptability, and strong communication skills help Growth Managers identify opportunities and collaborate across teams. These abilities are crucial for driving user acquisition, retention, and revenue growth in a competitive market.

How does a growth professional typically collaborate with cross-functional teams to drive company objectives?

Growth professionals work closely with marketing, product, sales, and data teams to identify and implement strategies that accelerate user acquisition, engagement, and retention. They often lead experiments, analyze data to uncover opportunities, and coordinate initiatives that require input from multiple departments. This collaborative approach helps ensure that growth strategies are aligned with broader company goals and that resources are leveraged effectively. Regular communication and project management skills are crucial for success in this dynamic and fast-paced environment.

You will develop and execute a growth strategy that aligns customer priorities, acquisition pathways, and company capabilities to drive adoption all the way from initial engagements and tactical sales through enterprise programs.

Success in this role requires executing on sales and seeing beyond the next opportunity to define what long-term success looks like for your customer and then building the path to achieve it. You will influence requirements, navigate funding and acquisition processes, and lead customer, partner, and cross-functional engagement to secure near-term wins that establish credibility, expand adoption, and position the company for larger, strategic opportunities. • Business Development & Capture Leadership:
    • Lead capture strategies that generate, qualify, pursue, and win new opportunities. Shape customer requirements through targeted stakeholder engagement, build compelling capture plans, and consistently achieve bookings growth and revenue targets
  • Account Management & Customer Success:
    • Build and maintain trusted relationships with operational, technical, and acquisition organizations within Marine Corps program offices by serving as a strategic advisor, managing accounts with a consultative and solutions sales approach, and deepening understanding of customer missions, challenges, and priorities to drive satisfaction and enduring partnerships.
  • Customer Funding & Acquisition Expertise:
    • Map how customers plan, fund, and acquire capabilities by navigating budgeting, procurement, and acquisition processes to win opportunities
  • Partnership Development:
    • Drive partner collaboration for customer-specific opportunities by leading engagement across external partners and internal stakeholders. Coordinate necessary cross-functional resources and maintain customer alignment to deliver integrated solutions to achieve revenue growth and accelerate capture efforts
  • Cross-Functional Collaboration:
    • Partner across the company to align customer needs with business priorities, lead cross-functional execution of customer-focused initiatives, and drive successful delivery through collaboration, accountability, and ownership.

What Success Looks Like:

  • Bookings or revenue from shaped opportunities
  • Strategic qualified pipeline
  • Funded requirements created or influenced
  • Programs or acquisition vehicles entered
  • Budget actions achieved
  • Progress against named strategic campaigns
  • Prime or integrator partnerships established
  • Proofs of concept, white papers delivered, solicitations responded to

Preferred Experience:

  • Demonstrated extensive experience in defense technology sales, business development, strategic partnerships, and growth initiatives supporting the U.S. Marine Corps and its operational mission.
  • Proven ability to develop and communicate a strategic vision for goTenna across key Marine Corps commands, translating that vision into disciplined, executable plans that deliver operational value.
  • Established relationships and credibility across USMC program offices and support organizations, such as MCTSSA, MCSC, MCWL, and innovation cells with the ability to leverage existing networks while proactively developing new relationships with key stakeholders, influencers, and decision-makers.
  • Deep understanding of Marine Corps acquisition and funding processes, with the ability to identify, navigate, and influence the appropriate stakeholders and funding pathways required to advance programs and opportunities.
