Employer & Industry UsageCommon in large enterprises, corporations, and IT service providersFound across various industries, focusing on project delivery

The Group IT Manager typically oversees multiple IT teams and strategic initiatives within an organization, requiring broad leadership skills and certifications like ITIL and PMP. In contrast, the IT Project Manager focuses on managing individual projects, ensuring timely delivery and scope management. Both roles require strong project management skills but differ in scope and responsibilities.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a Group IT Manager, and why are they important?

To thrive as a Group IT Manager, you need extensive experience in IT management, a strong understanding of network infrastructure, and typically a degree in computer science or a related field. Familiarity with enterprise systems such as ERP, cloud platforms, cybersecurity protocols, and certifications like ITIL or PMP are commonly required. Leadership, strategic planning, and excellent communication skills help manage teams and drive technology initiatives across departments. These competencies ensure that IT operations align with business goals, support organizational growth, and mitigate technological risks.

What are Group IT Managers?

Group IT Managers are professionals responsible for overseeing and coordinating the information technology operations of an entire group of companies or departments within a larger organization. They manage IT teams, develop and implement IT strategies, ensure cybersecurity, and maintain technology infrastructure across multiple business units. Their role often includes budgeting, vendor management, and aligning IT initiatives with the organization’s overall goals. Group IT Managers act as a bridge between executive leadership and technical teams, ensuring technology delivers value and supports business growth.

What are some common challenges a Group IT Manager faces when overseeing technology operations across multiple locations?

A Group IT Manager often navigates the complexities of standardizing IT processes and systems across various business units or geographical locations. Coordinating between different teams, ensuring consistent cybersecurity practices, and managing diverse technology infrastructures can be challenging. Effective communication and strong project management skills are essential to balance local needs with global IT strategies. Additionally, the role often requires quick problem-solving to address unexpected technical issues while maintaining business continuity.

JOB DESCRIPTION

IT Manager (ERP / SAP Applications Focus) – WAM USA

Position Summary

WAM USA is seeking an IT Manager with a strong application and ERP orientation to lead local IT activities with primary focus on SAP ERP and Group business applications. The role ensures reliable day-to-day support to WAM USA users, drives continuous improvement of business processes enabled by SAP, and progressively provides IT application support to other North American subsidiaries in alignment with Group standards and the global template.

This position requires a hands-on professional able to bridge business needs and IT solutions, coordinate with Corporate IT and external partners, and ensure a stable, secure, and well-governed application landscape.

Key Responsibilities

1) SAP ERP & Business Applications Ownership (Primary)

  • Act as the local reference for SAP ERP usage, functional support (1st/2nd level), and template governance; ensure adherence to Group processes and the global SAP template.
  • Collect, analyze, and translate business requirements into functional specifications; coordinate testing, user acceptance, and deployment of changes/enhancements.
  • Troubleshoot incidents and recurring issues; identify root causes and implement corrective/preventive actions.
  • Coordinate SAP vendors/partners and Corporate application teams, ensuring effective incident resolution and change delivery through structured processes (ticketing / ITIL-style).
  • Ensure master data discipline (customers, vendors, materials, BOM/routings, pricing conditions) and promote data quality standards.

2) America Application Support Expansion

  • Progressively extend application support services (SAP and Group applications) to additional Americas subsidiaries, providing standardized support, training, and process alignment.
  • Contribute to rollouts and harmonization initiatives, ensuring local statutory/operational needs are addressed without deviating from Group guidelines.

3) User Enablement, Training & Adoption

  • Plan and deliver end-user training (directly or via key users) to ensure consistent adoption of SAP processes and correct operational practices.
  • Create and maintain user documentation (how-to guides, quick references) and support materials; promote best practices for process compliance and data quality.

4) Local IT Governance & Service Management

  • Own local IT service execution (applications first; infrastructure oversight as needed), ensuring service continuity, prioritization, and clear stakeholder communication.
  • Manage local IT suppliers; coordinate with Corporate IT on standards, security policies, identities, and access management.
  • Support audits/compliance activities relevant to IT processes and information security.

5) Reporting & Business Insight

  • Enable key reporting and analysis capabilities from SAP and related tools; support stakeholders in extracting actionable insights for operations and commercial decisions.
  • Maintain dashboards/reports (as applicable) and ensure consistent interpretation of KPIs.

Required SAP Operational Competencies (Must-Have)

The role requires operational (process) knowledge of SAP, with hands-on capability to support users in daily execution and issue resolution across the following domains:

Sales – SAP SD

  • Support core O2C activities: quotations, sales orders, pricing/conditions, availability checks, deliveries, billing, returns/credit memos, and customer master data.
  • Understand key integration points with logistics and finance (delivery/billing postings, revenue recognition drivers, taxes/duties as applicable).
  • Ability to guide users on standard transactions and troubleshoot common errors (pricing, blocks, incompletion, document flow).

Purchasing – SAP MM

  • Support requisitions, purchase orders, confirmations, goods receipt, invoice verification, and vendor master data.
  • Understand purchasing info records, source determination concepts, basic release/approval flows (if applicable), and typical error handling in GR/IR processes.
  • Ability to coordinate with warehouse/production for purchasing-driven material availability and exception management.
  • MRP & Forecast management

Warehouse & Inventory – SAP WM

  • Support inventory and warehouse operations: stock movements, put-away, picking, transfer orders/tasks, cycle counting, and inventory adjustments.
  • Understand storage locations/warehouse structures, handling unit concepts (if used), and integration with inbound (GR) and outbound (delivery) processes.
  • Ability to troubleshoot operational issues (stock differences, blocked stock, bin/TO errors, staging problems).

Production – SAP PP

  • Support production execution: production orders, confirmations, goods issues/receipts, basic capacity/material checks, and production master data (BOMs, routings, work centers).
  • Understand make-to-stock vs make-to-order scenarios (as applicable) and integration with materials management and warehouse processes.
  • Ability to troubleshoot common issues (missing components, confirmations, backflushing, order status problems).

Note: Deep customizing is not mandatory, but the candidate must be able to operate effectively on end-to-end processes, manage incidents, and coordinate enhancements with Corporate IT and/or external consultants.

General Qualifications

  • Proven experience (typically 5+ years) in IT roles with strong ERP application responsibility, ideally in manufacturing and/or trading environments.
  • Solid functional knowledge of SAP ERP (ECC and/or S/4HANA exposure), including end-to-end process understanding and cross-module integration.
  • Experience in requirements gathering, functional analysis, testing/UAT coordination, and change/release management.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills; ability to prioritize and manage multiple topics simultaneously.
  • Excellent communication skills (written and verbal) in English; ability to deliver training and create clear documentation.
  • Experience coordinating external vendors/consultants and working in a structured support model (ticketing / ITIL concepts).

Preferred / Nice-to-Have

  • Experience with global template governance and multi-country organizations.
  • Exposure to SAP rollouts and post go-live stabilization phases.
  • Basic understanding of infrastructure topics (networks, identity, endpoints, security) to interface effectively with infrastructure teams.

Soft Skills

  • Business-oriented mindset with strong stakeholder management.
  • Hands-on attitude and proactive approach to continuous improvement.
  • Ability to work in a matrix organization across time zones and cultures.

Working Conditions

  • Based in the United States, supporting WAM USA operations (multi-site) and collaborating with Corporate IT.
  • Travel may be required within the US and to other Americas subsidiaries as the support scope expands.

What Success Looks Like (First 6–12 Months)

  • Stable and reliable SAP support for WAM USA with measurable reduction in recurring issues.
  • Increased user adoption and correct usage of core SAP processes (Sales, Purchasing, Warehouse, Production).
  • Clear and effective collaboration model with Corporate IT and external partners.

Defined roadmap to extend application support to other A
