We are seeking a skilled and detail-oriented full-time Skilled Grind Operator to add to our talented team. To be considered for this position, you must have 1+ years working with CNC/NC grinders and manual models. Setup and operate machines such as cylindrical OD, infeed, through feed, surface, and internal precision grinders. Completing assignments per customer specifications. Completes all documentation per company procedures such as step checklist, route travelers, charting, scrap tags, data entry, etc. Setup equipment by entering zero and reference points, setting tools, offsets, compensation.

Requirements

Essential Duties & Responsibilities (other duties may be assigned)

  • Studies blueprint or layout on work piece to visualize grinding to be done, and plans sequence of operations.
  • Selects grinding wheel and secures it on spindle.
  • Maintains wheel life and quality of work by dressing grind and regulating wheels.
  • Lifts work piece and positions and secures work piece to holding device.
  • Selects feed rates, grinding speeds, depth of cuts and grind wheel of size, shape and grade for each operation.
  • Positions and tightens stops to limit travel of work pieces or grinding wheel.
  • Moves controls to position wheel and work piece in relation to each other, and to set feed, speed and depth of cut.
  • Observes operation and adjusts position and action of wheel and work piece.
  • Starts machine, turns hand wheel to feed grinding wheel to work piece or vice versa, and engages power feeding device.
  • Ensures proper placement of coolant when running machinery
  • Verifies dimensions of groundwork pieces for conformance to specifications and required tolerances.
  • Keeps records of setups, running and downtime of each job
  • Verifies proper and consistent part loading on automated machinery.
  • Makes correct offsets during machine operation to ensure specifications and tolerances.
  • Performs and records first piece and quality inspections as required for each work piece.
  • Being sure the equipment is in working order by inspecting and performing basic maintenance, including lubrication and cleaning, and scheduling repairs when needed.
  • Maintains clean work area.
  • Trains new and existing employees as necessary.
  • Other tasks as assigned.


Qualifications:

  • 1+ years experience in a manufacturing and machining setting.
  • Technical or trade school a plus.
  • Ability to read and interpret process worksheets.
  • Able to follow written and verbal instructions.
  • Knowledge of quality and safety standards.
  • Ability to setup, operate, and maintain manufacturing machines.
  • Able to work independently as well as in a team environment.
  • Able to read, analyze and interpret documents such as blueprints, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals.
  • General knowledge and use of dial indicators
  • Ability to calculate figures and amounts such at proportions, percentages, area, circumference and volume. Ability to apply concepts of basic algebra and geometry.
  • Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists.
  • Ability to hold tight tolerances up to .0002 tenths.
  • Good work history, attendance and a team player.
