What is green roofing?

Green roofing refers to the installation of vegetation, soil, and waterproof layers on the roof of a building to create a living, sustainable roof system. These roofs help manage stormwater, improve insulation, reduce urban heat, and support biodiversity. Green roofs can be extensive (lightweight and low-maintenance) or intensive (heavier and capable of supporting a wider variety of plants). They are increasingly popular for their environmental benefits and ability to extend roof lifespan.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a Green Roofing Specialist, and why are they important?

To thrive as a Green Roofing Specialist, you need knowledge of roofing systems, horticulture, and sustainable building practices, often supported by training in green construction or environmental design. Familiarity with tools like CAD software, waterproofing membranes, and green roof irrigation systems is typically necessary. Strong problem-solving skills, teamwork, and attention to detail help specialists address unique project challenges and ensure high-quality installations. These skills are vital to ensure green roofs are installed safely, sustainably, and in compliance with environmental standards.

What are some common challenges faced by professionals working in green roofing installation and maintenance?

Professionals in green roofing often encounter challenges such as managing the weight and structural requirements of green roof systems, ensuring proper waterproofing to prevent leaks, and selecting plant species that thrive in the local climate. Working at heights and coordinating with other construction trades are also typical aspects of the job. Additionally, ongoing maintenance—such as irrigation, weeding, and monitoring plant health—requires attention to detail and a proactive approach to sustain the roof's performance over time.

Job description

Are you a technical expert who values autonomy, data-driven results, and precision over office politics?

We are seeking a Commercial Roofing Project Manager to oversee complex projects across the Carolinas and Virginia; but mainly in the Guilford, Forsyth, and Rockingham County areas. We don’t need a "people person"—we need a "project person." If you are a methodical problem-solver who prefers the facts of a blueprint to the fluff of a boardroom, this role was designed for you.

Why You’ll Fit Here:

We understand that the best Project Managers aren’t always the loudest voices in the room; they are the ones with the most accurate data. We offer a workplace that balances structured operational standards with the independence to manage your own schedule.

  • Fact-Based Environment: We value direct, straightforward communication. You won’t be expected to engage in unnecessary small talk or navigate corporate "vibes."
  • Technical Focus: You will spend your time focusing on your projects—analyzing specifications, managing budgets, and ensuring projects are completed on time, and under budget.
  • Autonomy with Backup: You have the freedom to manage your projects your way. When "what-if" scenarios arise, you have access to higher-level authority to provide the final green light so you can move forward with confidence.

Approach to the Role:

  • Methodical Execution: You rely on proven, traditional roofing methods while remaining objective enough to pivot when the job site conditions demand a change.
  • Direct Leadership: You lead with an authoritarian, factual style. You don’t delegate to just anyone; you only hand off tasks to those who meet your high standards of competency.
  • Conflict Resolution: While you are a direct communicator, you prefer a peaceful professional environment. You negotiate disagreements with logic, but you know when to step back and let the process handle the friction.
  • Emotional Resilience: You possess the rare ability to adapt your behavior to the stress of the job, bouncing back quickly from high-pressure deadlines.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Manage the full lifecycle of multiple commercial roofing projects with a focus on technical accuracy.
  • Utilize project data to forecast potential successes and failures before they happen.
  • Communicate project status via factual, concise reporting.
  • Maintain a rigorous schedule, working autonomously to meet milestones.
  • Apply traditional, time-tested roofing concepts to modern challenges.

Requirements:
What we look for in new team members-

  • Minimum 3 Years Commercial roofing experience
  • Strong work ethic
  • Valid Driver’s License
  • Legally eligible to work in the United States
  • The selected candidate will be required to pass a criminal history background check.

Qualifications:

  • Proven experience in commercial roofing or construction project management.
  • A preference for technical, data-heavy work over social-heavy roles.
  • Comfortable with a straightforward, sometimes confrontational communication style when facts are at stake.
  • Ability to work independently in the field while adhering to company structure.

Benefits & Compensation:
A qualified candidate will be offered competitive base pay, motivating commission structure, along with the benefits listed below-

  • Health Insurance
  • Free telemedicine for you and your entire family through Teladoc
  • Generous PTO plan
  • 9 paid holidays
  • 401k with generous company match
  • Optional voluntary insurances (dental, vision, short term disability, long term disability, term life, accident, critical illness, hospital indemnity).
RECRUITERS: We are not accepting unsolicited outreach or new agency engagements for this position.
