This position will be part of the DOTI Citywide Bridge Program, which provides engineering and project management services for roadways, street reconstruction, new and replacement bridges, culverts, retaining walls, green infrastructure, and the expansion and upgrades of the City's storm and sanitary sewer systems and waterways throughout Denver.

This position would be housed with the DOTI Citywide Bridge Program Infrastructure Team. The DOTI team provides engineering and project management services for roadways, street reconstruction, new and replacement bridges, culverts, retaining walls, green infrastructure, and expansion and upgrades to the City's storm and sanitary sewer infrastructure and waterways throughout Denver.

Specifically, as the Bridge Construction Project Inspector, you will:
Perform advanced level quality assurance evaluations on project sites reviewing processes for quality continuity and contract compliance; serve as the main point of contact and subject matter expert for the City on project worksites.
Ensure construction projects are built in compliance with all aspects of construction contracts by evaluating construction processes and contractor quality control measures to ensure contractors are inspecting and testing materials, methods, equipment, and structural components as they are installed. There is a possibility that this work could be performed during non-normal working hours (nights or weekends) that would need oversight.
Manage multifaceted bridge, culvert, and retaining wall improvement projects as the field representative of the Project Manager or Project Engineer.
Assist in project implementation from inception to completion, and coordinate and schedule work with other stakeholders.
Work with contractors regarding adherence to design and specifications by collaboratively evaluating construction and quality control processes.
Evaluate construction sites and processes for environmental compliance and OSHA rules for worker safety and works with contractors to make sure any safety issues are addressed promptly and appropriately.
Use extensive subject matter expertise and a strong background in construction to lead teams performing project construction feasibility reviews that include in depth plan review, specification creation, budget analysis, and an understanding of construction survey.
Resolve problems encountered during daily construction operations and determines appropriate solutions that promote teamwork.
Experience in cost control and project budget management.
Use extensive subject matter expertise and a strong background in bridge construction to mentor other team members when difficult construction problems arise offering solutions and coaching.
Our ideal candidate will have a strong background and understanding of construction management, with expertise in project implementation and leadership techniques to ensure successful project completion. Experience in underground heavy civil, bridge structures, retaining walls, and culverts is essential. The candidate should also have demonstrated experience working directly with contractors on heavy civil construction and/or bridge construction projects in an inspection capacity.
Additionally, our ideal candidate has some or all the following experience, skills, and characteristics:
Two (2) years of documented experience as a Project Inspector or Project Manager.
Experience in dealing with the public as an inspector or project manager on heavy civil project, bridge/structures, or similar type work.
Experience with concrete formwork, rebar inspection, bridge bearing inspection, structural steel erection, girder fabrications and bridge deck installation.
Experience handling environmental contaminants on construction sites.
Experience working with internal and external stakeholders on construction projects with a focus on collegial teamwork, de-escalation when necessary, and customer service.
Proficient using Adobe PDF software and all Microsoft Office products.
Education requirement: Bachelor's Degree in Construction Management, Engineering, or a related field of study.
Experience Requirement: Two (2) years of experience inspecting construction projects for adherence to project plans and specifications, or construction project management involving the oversight and inspection of construction materials, methods, and equipment.
Education/Experience Equivalency: One (1) year of the appropriate type and level of experience may be substituted for each required year of post-high school education.
Additional appropriate education may be substituted for the minimum experience requirements.
License/Certifications: Requires a valid Driver's License at the time of application. Licenses and certifications must be kept current as a condition of employment.
