Summary :
The Manager of Grant and Government Funding is responsible for overseeing the full lifecycle of grant funding-from research and proposal development through award management, compliance, reporting, and renewal. This role ensures that grant-funded programs align with organizational goals, meet sponsor requirements, and maintain strong relationships with funders.
This role will develop the infrastructure of elements including the federally required Internal Controls according to the Federal Codes of Regulation (2 CFR 200), as well as Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP) and industry Best Practice. This role will maintain current knowledge in every aspect of funding governance as it relates to funding taken at Froedtert ThedaCare, adjust Policy and Control Management, train appropriate staff, and monitor regulatory and contractual completeness for every grant. The Manager will be the direct grant connection to Federal Agencies, General Counsel, and other relationships that exist outside of Froedtert ThedaCare.
Job Description:
JOB RESPONSIBILITIES:
Grant Strategy & Identification
  • Research and identify public and private grant opportunities aligned with organizational priorities.
  • Maintain a grants calendar tracking deadlines, reporting requirements, and renewals.
  • Collaborate with leadership and program staff to assess funding needs and feasibility.

Proposal Development
  • Lead development, writing, and submission of grant proposals, letters of inquiry, and supporting documentation.
  • Coordinate input from finance, programs, legal/compliance, and leadership teams.
  • Develop budgets, narratives, and logic models in collaboration with stakeholders.
  • Ensure proposals comply with funder guidelines and organizational policies.

Award Management & Compliance
  • Manage awarded grants from initiation through closeout.
  • Ensure compliance with funder, contractual, and regulatory requirements.
  • Monitor grant budgets, expenditures, and allowable costs in coordination with finance.
  • Maintain complete and accurate grant files and documentation.

Reporting & Stewardship
  • Prepare and submit timely financial and programmatic reports.
  • Track performance metrics and outcomes required by funders.
  • Serve as primary point of contact with funders, auditors, and external partners.
  • Support site visits, audits, and monitoring reviews.
  • Manage institutional registrations in federal portals
  • Build and maintain the full Froedtert ThedaCare Grant Portfolio within the grant management software platform
  • Manage and oversee grant management department staff
  • Establish and implement internal controls that align with 2 CFR 200 and sponsor specific requirements

Relationship Management & Internal Support
  • Foster strong relationships with funders and partners.
  • Provide guidance and training to internal staff on grant requirements and best practices.
  • Develop and improve grant-related policies, procedures, and systems.

QUALIFICATIONS:
Required
  • Bachelor's degree in nonprofit management, public administration, finance, or a related field.
  • 3-5 years of experience in grant management, proposal writing, or sponsored programs.
  • Demonstrated success securing and managing grants.
  • Strong knowledge of grant compliance, budgeting, and reporting requirements.
  • Excellent writing, organizational, and project management skills.

Preferred
  • Master's degree or professional certification (e.g., CGMS).
  • Experience with government grants and complex compliance environments.
  • Familiarity with grants management software and financial systems.
