Job description

Position Summary: To provide patient and family care as part of the health care team in accordance with the mission, vision, and policies and procedures of Grande Ronde Hospital. Working under the direction and supervision of the Nurse Manager, House Supervisor, and/or Charge Nurse, provides care authorized by the Oregon State Board of Nursing (OSBN). Performs general nursing duties in Medical-Surgical department in collaboration with providers. Participates in performance improvement activities.
Qualifications:
  • Graduate of an accredited school of nursing
  • Registered Nurse with a current, unencumbered Oregon License
  • BLS current. ACLS within 6 months of hire.
  • If Charge Nurse: PALS within 6 months of hire
  • BSN or greater preferred
  • CMSRN or PCCN Certification preferred
  • Past experience should show satisfactory to superior job performance
Primary Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Follows standards and practice for the licensed Registered Nurse per OSBN.
  • Provides assessment and planning for individualized patient care.
    1. Documents appropriately in patient record
  • Communicates with providers about changes in a patient's clinical condition including: patient monitoring and results of diagnostic studies.
  • Responds quickly and accurately to changes in condition or response to treatment.
    1. Answers patient calls
  • Assists with fall prevention and preventing pressure, friction, and shearing of patient skin
  • Maintains effective communication with patients, families, and coworkers
  • Maintains patient and environmental safety. Provides 1:1 patient safety observation as needed
  • Gives clear, simple directions to patient, and reinforces teaching and orientation to the patient
  • Maintains and enforces strict patient confidentiality and respect patient and family rights
  • Demonstrates knowledge of State and Federal regulations
    1. Participates in in-service and education programs as required by Federal and State rules.
  • Complies with all organizational policies regarding ethical business practices.
  • Complies with all Compliance Program policies as appropriate.
    1. Reports potential compliance issues to his/her manager, a Compliance Officer or the Compliance Hotline, as appropriate.
  • Completes all other duties as assigned.
Skills and Abilities:
  • Ability to recognize and report abnormal occurrences
  • Ability to chart efficiency and effectively within the EMR
  • Able to appropriately use Personal Protective Equipment (PPE)
  • Knowledge of the fire plan an escape routes for patient and self
  • Demonstrates competence by ongoing completion of any or all of the following:
    1. Proficiency testing
    2. Annual skills competency and demonstration
    3. Practice of core standards for service excellence
    4. Provides patient care and performs tasks using job skills, growth, and development knowledge
    5. Effective communication skills both verbally and written

Physical Demands and Work Environment:
  1. Ability to lift 50 pounds maximum with frequent lifting/or carrying of objects weighing up to 25 pounds.

  3. Needs ability to communicate effectively through reading, writing, and speaking in person or on telephone
  4. Requires frequent use of computer
  5. Must demonstrate manual dexterity
  6. Occasional exposure to blood, body fluids or tissue, communicable diseases, chemicals, including but not limited to sticks or cuts by needles and other sharp items. Employee eligible for Hepatitis B Vaccination if desired.
  7. Must be able to perform the essential functions of the job with or without reasonable accommodation.

Compensation
$44.25- $75.02 DOE, Casual employees receive an additional 15% in Lieu of benefits.
