Job description

The Referral Coordinator is responsible to the Clinic Manager and will work closely with patients, insurance carriers, and clinic staff to ensure all referrals are handled with accuracy, expedience and proper preauthorization to minimize the risk of fragmented care. They will assist with surgical authorization data entry and scanning of supporting documents. Referral Coordinator will complete weekly report to Clinic Manager of referral volumes, scheduling and cycle completion.
Qualifications:
  • Well-groomed and demonstrates appropriate, professional conduct.
  • Must have a high school diploma or GED Certificate.
  • Excellent customer service skills and telephone etiquette
  • Knowledge of the medical insurance field preferred.
  • Must function independently, demonstrating efficiency, initiative focus and accuracy in work.
  • Excellent organizational skills and strong communication skills both verbally and written.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills including friendliness, empathy, patience, politeness, and kindness.
  • Experience working with Electronic Health Records Preferred.
  • Basic proficiency in computer systems including Microsoft Word, Excel, and Outlook.

Primary Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Efficiently works assigned referral queues to process incoming and/or outgoing referrals in a timely manner
  • Maintains current knowledge of Medicare, Oregon Health Plan and third-party payer's requirements for Prior Authorizations and Referrals.
  • Identifies VA eligible patients and acquires appropriate referrals/authorizations.

Skills and Abilities:
  • Ability to work with sensitive information and maintain a high degree of confidentiality.
  • Strong analytical skills combined with a high level of attention to detail.
  • Demonstrated ability to effectively handle multiple priorities and projects.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills to work with employees and managers at all levels, including coaching others on processes and managing change
  • Ability to Generates creative and innovative solutions to problems when needed.

Physical Demands and Work Environment:
  • Ability to lift 25 pounds.
  • Able to sit, stand, walk, bend, squat, reach, and stretch frequently
  • Ability to communicate effectively through reading, writing, and speaking in person or on telephone
  • Requires frequent use of computer
  • Must be able to perform the primary duties and responsibilities of the job with or without reasonable accommodation.
