General Description
The purpose of this position is to assist the teachers in providing a safe, nurturing, and developmentally appropriate environment for the children at the Child Study Center.
Essential Job Duties
Promote teacher-child relations by helping children adapt to the environment.
Be responsible for guidance and self-discipline among children.
Build classroom community.
Supervise arrival/departure of children.
Foster classroom relationships with family members.
Assist with and ensure set-up/clean-up of daily routine.
Prepare and serve meals and snacks.
Exhibit and maintain a child-centered safe and healthy environment in both the indoor and outdoor classrooms.
Complete Daily Sheets, Incident Reports, and potential assessments in relation to the children.
Complete evaluations on University students.
Complete assignments as given by the teachers and/or director.
Abide by all policies stated in the Child Study Center Handbook.
Assist in other areas as needed.
Education and Experience
Undergraduate degree with a minimum of a 3.0 grade point average (on 4.0 scale).
A minimum of 12 college credits [semester hours] in Family and Consumer Sciences (FCS), Early Childhood Education (ECE), Child Development (CD), Elementary Education, Early Childhood Special Education (ECSE). Course content encompasses child development (physical, language, emotional, cognitive, social) and learning of children birth through kindergarten; family and community relationships; observing, documenting, and assessing young children; teaching and learning; and professional practices and development.
Baccalaureate degree in FCS, early childhood education, child development, elementary education or early childhood special education that encompasses child development and learning of children birth through kindergarten; family and community relationships; observing, documenting, and assessing young children; teaching and learning; and professional practices and development. Equivalence is defined as a Baccalaureate's degree in any discipline with a minimum of 36 college credits [semester hours] in early childhood education, child development, elementary education or early childhood special education that encompasses child development and learning of children birth through kindergarten; family and community relationships; observing, documenting, and assessing young children; teaching and learning; and professional practices and development.
Skills, Knowledge, and Abilities
Experience working in a child care center, nursery school, children's home, family childcare home, or related experience working in an accredited setting.
Understanding of developmentally appropriate practices advocated by the National Association for the Education of Young Children.
