Summary:

Graduate Student Ambassadors (GSA) serve as important representatives for the Office of Graduate Admissions at the School of Public Affairs (SPA). The position requires enthusiastic, personable, highly organized, versatile, and extremely dependable individuals who are able to represent the SPA graduate student experience to prospective students. A successful candidate would be team-oriented, self-directed and can work well in a fast paced, multi-task environment. Attention to detail is essential as well as familiarity with or the willingness to learn new computer programs such as Microsoft Excel and the campus' Customer Relationship Management (CRM) platform, Salesforce, as well as a high degree of sensitivity to the handling of confidential information.

Essential Functions:

  • Participate in Ambassador training and any additional, required trainings related to recruitment initiatives.

  • Attend Ambassador and/or other relevant meetings.

  • Will support virtual, campus visit process including planning, execution, and follow- up with prospective students.

  • Monitor the spainfo@american.edu inbox and offer timely, professional response(s) as approved by supervision.

  • Enter prospective student information in the CRM.

  • Establish and/or maintain relationships with prospective students utilizing various mediums (written, online, social).

  • Work closely with admissions staff on special projects/initiatives (e.g. admission congratulations and missing items calls, Chat with a Current Student, research projects) related to prospective student recruitment.

  • Assist with planning, implementation, and execution of recruitment events like: SPA Preview Day, Top Prospect Day, Engagement Day, Decision Days, Social Reception, Social Hours and any other major SPA recruitment events. Please consider attendance mandatory. These events will have class visits the night beforehand.

  • Assist in the research, logistical planning, preparations and follow-up related to recruitment fairs/initiatives.

  • Be knowledgeable of academic programs as well as student life so the full graduate student experience is shared credibly with prospective students and influencers.

  • Represent SPA & AU professionally via on-campus and online presentation and decorum.

  • Other duties as relevant and assigned.

Position Type/Expected Hours of Work:

  • Part-time.

  • 5 - 10 hours per week on-campus and will have the privilege of establishing a work schedule that prioritizes both academic and other professional demands.

  • Some evening work hours are required.

  • Extended work hours will be requested for major recruitment events (GSA((s))can alter regular work hours to accommodate support for these events).

Salary Range:

  • $19.50 per hour.
