Job description

The STEM Living-Learning Center (LLC) at Indiana University (IU) invites applications for an hourly Graduate Assistant (GA).
The STEM LLC is an interdisciplinary residential community for first-year IU students on various STEM pathways, and it offers academic, co-curricular, and extra-curricular programming for its students. The STEM LLC GA will play a key role in supporting the academic and community experience of students in the STEM LLC. This position centers on instructional support for the LLC seminar course, student mentorship, and contributing to a collaborative and engaging residential learning environment.
Job Summary
With guidance from the STEM LLC Director, the graduate assistant will perform:
Department Specific Responsibilities
  • Assists in teaching a weekly STEM LLC seminar course held on Mondays from 5:30-6:30 PM (required availability) during the Fall and Spring terms.
  • Grades weekly assignments and provide timely, constructive feedback to students.
  • Supports course planning, curriculum development, and preparation beginning August 1.
  • Helps supervise Peer Tutors and support Peer Mentors within the LLC.
  • Serves as an accessible resource for students' academic and personal development.
  • Encourages student engagement, belonging, and success within STEM pathways.
  • Assists in planning and facilitating community-building activities and events.
  • Assists with STEM LLC orientation programming during the week prior to the start of the academic year.
  • Collaborates with campus partners and LLC staff to enhance the student experience.
  • Contributes ideas and innovations to support the continued development of the newly reimagined STEM LLC.
Qualifications
EDUCATION
Required
  • Currently enrolled as a graduate student at Indiana University during the 26-27 academic year
WORK EXPERIENCE
Required
  • Background in a STEM discipline or relevant experience in STEM education/student success
  • Experience with teaching, tutoring, or facilitating student learning
SKILLS
Required
  • Strong interest in student development, mentorship, and experiential learning
  • Ability to provide clear, constructive feedback on student work
  • Strong organizational and communication skills
  • Ability to work collaboratively and contribute to a team environment
Working Conditions / Demands
This role requires the ability to effectively communicate and to operate a computer and other standard office productivity equipment. The position involves sedentary work as well as periods of time moving around an office environment and the campus. The person in this role must be able to move objects weighing up to 25 pounds. The person in this role must be able to perform the essential functions with or without an accommodation.
This positions requires the ability to be available Mondays from 5:30-6:30 PM.
Available beginning August 1, 2026 for program planning and orientation support.
Additional Information
This hourly position begins as early as August 1, 2026 to support course development, instructional support, and program planning that continues through the academic year.
