The Department of Art and Art History at The University of Texas at Austin offers a unique environment for students to train as scholars, makers and educators in the visual arts. The department is divided into three academic divisions: Studio Art, Art History, and Art Education and also includes a Visual Arts Center.

The Art and Art History department includes a strong team of two dozen dedicated staff members. Both the College of Fine Arts and departmental leadership prioritize providing staff with a supportive work environment. The ideal candidate for this role should have strong administrative skills but the position does not require experience with graduate students, only a willingness to learn. The role supports faculty advisors who oversee the MFA in Studio, as well as the MA and PhD programs in Art History, providing coordination, interfacing with the Graduate School, and engaging with both current and prospective students regarding program policies and procedures.
Strong organizational skills, attention to detail, and the ability to effectively communicate with varied audiences are essential for success in this role.
Responsibilities:Provides information to prospective graduate students and the public on eligibility for admission and program requirements.
Interacts with university students, faculty, staff and outside agencies as a representative of the graduate program within the Office of Graduate Studies. Assists with providing in-depth information, clarification and interpretation of institutional and graduate program rules and regulations to students.
Works with the faculty Graduate Advisors to develop and implement recruitment strategies. Assists with registration process and orientation.
Responsible for ensuring the department remains in compliance with institutional rules, regulations and procedures.
Serves as primary liaison between the department and prospective graduate students. Tracks and informs faculty regarding graduate student progress.
Work with department Assistant Chairs and faculty Graduate Advisors to managescholarships, including recruiting, selection, administration, and reporting.
Maintains electronic records, files, statistics and data bases on graduate students and applicants.
Assist the department with other related functions as assigned.
