Under the general supervision of the Dean of Student Services and the appropriate lead faculty member or program director/coordinator, the Professional Expert (Graduate Intern) will provide support to Counseling, Special Programs, the Basic Needs Center, and/or other related Student Services offices as needed. The Graduate Intern will play a leadership role in supporting program activities and initiatives that enhance student engagement, promote student success, and foster an inclusive and affirming campus environment. In this role, the Graduate Intern will collaborate with faculty, staff, and administrators to assist in the planning, coordination, and implementation of programs and services that support diverse student populations.

Responsibilities may include assisting with outreach efforts, supporting student programming and workshops, contributing to student success initiatives such as academic planning and transfer readiness, and connecting students to both on-campus and community-based resources. This position provides graduate students with hands-on professional experience in student services, program development, and higher education administration while supporting the mission of the college to advance equity and student achievement. The Professional Expert will deliver district-wide on-campus support Monday through Friday, up to 12 hours per week.

This is a temporary position unless extended based on program needs. Example of Duties Essential Duties and Responsibilities: Conduct and summarize research on relevant social issues and student wellness topics to inform programming and services that support student success. Provide ideas and support for solutions to social challenges affecting students, including behavioral health, housing and homelessness, food security, public safety, and other related areas.

Collaborate with Student Health Services, the Basic Needs Center, and other campus partners to plan and coordinate trainings, workshops, and events, such as Safe Space trainings, support events for special populations, and provide intervention and prevention-focused programming. Serve as a resource for students, faculty, staff, and administrators by connecting students to campus and community resources and providing guidance related to mental health, wellness, and academic success. Design and facilitate intervention and prevention-focused programs and workshops addressing topics such as mental wellness, anger management, substance use harm reduction, healthy relationships, suicide prevention, and academic recovery.

Promote awareness of campus services through outreach efforts, including orientations, classroom presentations, resource fairs, tabling, social media, newsletters, and other communication strategies. Support students in developing academic skills through goal setting, time management strategies, and study skill development to strengthen retention and academic achievement. Maintain accurate records of student interactions, assist with data collection, and support the preparation of reports as required.

Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams and campus programs to develop and implement innovative initiatives that promote student equity, retention, and success. Participate in supervision, training, and professional development opportunities as required by the internship program. Demonstrate an understanding of, sensitivity to, and appreciation for the diverse academic, ethnic, socio-economic, disability, and gender diversity of students and staff attending and working on a community college campus.

Qualifications Minimum Qualifications: Enrollment in a graduate-level counseling, psychology, student services, higher education administration or other related programs. Knowledge of academic advising, counseling principles, and higher education systems. Demonstrated commitment to working with diverse and historically underrepresented student populations.

Strong interpersonal, communication, and organizational skills.
