Job Description
The Graduate Student Assistant will support the Institutional Research Office in collecting, analyzing, and reporting data to inform decision-making and strategic planning. This position is ideal for a graduate student with strong analytical skills, attention to detail, and an interest in higher education data and research.
Responsibilities:
Data Collection & Management:
  • Assist in gathering institutional data from internal and external sources.
  • Maintain data integrity and ensure accuracy in databases and spreadsheets.

Data Analysis & Reporting:
  • Perform statistical analyses using tools such as Excel, SPSS, R, or Python.
  • Prepare tables, charts, and dashboards for internal reports and presentations.

Survey Administration:
  • Support the design, distribution, and analysis of institutional surveys.
  • Compile and summarize survey results for stakeholders.

Compliance & Accreditation Support:
  • Assist with data submissions for state, federal, and accreditation reporting.
  • Ensure adherence to data privacy and compliance standards.

Special Projects:
  • Contribute to research projects related to student success, enrollment trends, and institutional effectiveness.
  • Perform literature reviews and benchmarking studies as needed.

Required Education & Experience:
  • Bachelor's degree in related field
  • Presently enrolled at Prairie View A&M University for at least nine (9) graduate semester credit hours during the term in which the work is to be done. (Preferably Statistics or Computer Science)
  • Must be in good academic standing (SAP) as demonstrated through your college; minimum 2.0 GPA
  • For work eligibility during a summer term, a student must be enrolled for at least three (3) graduate or undergraduate semester credit hours during the term in which the work is to be done or preregistered at least six (6) undergraduate semester hours or nine (9) graduate semester hours for the upcoming fall term.

Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
  • Strong analytical and quantitative skills.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Excel; experience with statistical software (SPSS, R, or Python)
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to manage multiple tasks and meet deadlines.
  • Attention to detail and commitment to data accuracy.

Preferred Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
  • Experience with data visualization tools (Tableau, Power BI).
  • Familiarity with institutional research concepts and higher education data systems.
