Dump Truck Driver

Department: Contracting

FLSA Status: Hourly, Non-Exempt

Position Summary

The Dump Truck Driver is responsible for safely operating commercial vehicles used to transport materials such as sand, gravel, and crushed stone to and from construction job sites.

Drivers may also operate water trucks, flatbeds, or other vehicles as assigned and assist grading and paving crews with general construction tasks when needed.

Typical work hours are 8–14 hour shifts Monday through Friday, with occasional night work, overtime, and weekends depending on project schedules. Minimal overnight travel may be required.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Operate dump trucks to transport materials such as sand, gravel, and crushed rock

  • Safely dump loads using truck controls and mechanisms

  • Perform pre-trip and post-trip inspections and complete required reports

  • Maintain assigned vehicles and report mechanical issues

  • Operate other assigned vehicles including water trucks or flatbeds

  • Assist construction crews with tasks such as:

    • Installing erosion control

    • Shoveling and moving materials

    • Checking grade

    • Driving posts

    • Operating small equipment and tools

  • Follow all company safety policies, OSHA regulations, and job site procedures

  • Maintain a clean and organized work area

  • Participate in proactive team efforts to achieve project and company goals

  • Perform additional duties as assigned by the foreman or supervisor

Education and Experience

  • High School Diploma or GED preferred but not required

  • Minimum of two (2) years of commercial driving experience

  • Experience operating dump trucks in construction environments preferred

  • Other combinations of education and experience may be considered

Certificates, Licenses, and Registrations

  • Valid Class B CDL required

  • Tanker endorsement preferred

  • HazMat endorsement preferred

  • Class A CDL preferred

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  • Ability to read and understand basic safety instructions and job documentation

  • Basic math skills including addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division

  • Ability to follow written and verbal instructions

  • Strong attention to safety and equipment operation

  • Ability to work independently and as part of a construction crew

Work Environment

This position works in outdoor construction environments and around heavy equipment. Work conditions may include exposure to changing weather, dust, noise, vibration, and active construction operations.
