What You’ll Do

The Teacher Assistant will support classroom teachers and/or other educators to improve instructional outcomes for students. The Teacher Assistant will assist the classroom teacher and support students in achieving established academic goals, ensure the safety and well being of students, and perform other duties as needed or assigned to support students in our classrooms.


Job Requirements and Qualifications


Education/Experience

  • 60 more college credits required; bachelor's degree preferred

  • Some experience working with students in a classroom setting


Knowledge/Skills

  • General knowledge of the practices, methods and techniques used in teaching individual and groups of students

  • General knowledge of classroom management and working with school-aged children

  • Skill in the use of classroom and instructional equipment

  • Ability to operate classroom technology (skateboards, Chromebooks, etc.)

  • Proficiency in the Microsoft Suite and Google Suite

  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with teachers, parents, students, and administrators.

  • Ability to maintain files, documents, and information


Duties & Responsibilities

  • Assist classroom teacher(s) in performing specific duties as assigned or undertaking specialized tasks to achieve and enhance instructional and behavioral objectives.

  • Support instructional classroom objectives by actively engaging students during instruction by monitoring students and supporting those that may be struggling or off task.

  • Work with individuals, small groups, or large groups of students, providing instructional support, the reinforcement of lesson objectives, etc., as assigned by teacher and/or building principal

  • Assist with classroom management and behavior support, i.e. monitoring the class while the teacher works with a small group of students, contacting parents, etc., as needed and assigned

  • Report student concerns directly and expeditiously to the teacher and assist with solutions under the direction and guidance of the classroom teacher, building principal, etc.

  • Assist with breakfast, lunch, snack, including clean-up

  • Maintain various records and files

  • Assist with daily classroom tasks, reviewing student work, and monitoring student progress, including grading papers, inputting grades and data, etc.

  • Escort and assist students as assigned by teacher or administrator.

  • Monitor students and deliver instruction during assigned periods or as needed, including stepping in to substitute teach when/if needed

  • Perform other related work as needed or assigned.
