Job description


Position Overview

We are seeking an experienced Hoe Operator to join our Civil Division as soon as possible. This role is essential to the successful completion of our civil construction projects, including earthworks, underground utility installations, and site development. The ideal candidate will have proven experience operating hydraulic excavators (hoes) safely, efficiently, and with precision in a civil construction environment.


Key Responsibilities

  • Operate hydraulic excavators (hoes) to complete trenching, excavating, backfilling, grading, sloping, and material handling.
  • Excavate safely and accurately around underground utilities, pipelines, structures, and other infrastructure.
  • Read and interpret grade stakes, site plans, blueprints, and project specifications.
  • Perform daily equipment inspections and routine maintenance to ensure safe operation.
  • Work closely with supervisors, grade crews, and other team members to complete projects on schedule.
  • Maintain a clean and safe work area while following all company policies and safety regulations.
  • Report equipment issues or safety concerns promptly.


Qualifications

  • Previous experience as a Hoe Operator in civil construction is required.
  • Experience with GPS machine control systems (Topcon or Trimble) is considered an asset.
  • Valid driver's license required.
  • Strong understanding of excavation techniques, soil conditions, and safe digging practices.
  • Experience working safely around underground and overhead utilities.
  • Ability to read grades and work accurately to project specifications.
  • Strong communication skills and the ability to work effectively as part of a team.
  • Flexibility to work overtime or shift work as required.
