Job description

NACG is seeking Grader Operators to join our remote mining site team in the Fort McMurray area. This is your opportunity to join one of the safest and largest contracts in the region.

For this role, NACG offers a combined rate of up to $56.50/hour as well as room for growth!

Where You’ll Be Working

  • Site: Kearl
  • Schedule: 14 x 14, hour days (paid for 12 hours). 14 days on, 14 off. 14 nights on, 14 off.
  • Accommodations: Camp accommodation is provided.
  • Transportation: Flights are provided to and from Edmonton or Calgary. Bussing provided from Fort McMurray to site (before and after rotation).
  • Overtime: Currently at Kearl they have blended rates with no overtime.

What You’ll Be Doing

  • Operate articulating motor graders ranging in size from 16 to 24 ft blade in a mining or heavy construction earthworks environment to maintain roadways and loading & dump areas (model types can include but are not limited to Caterpillar and John Deere)
  • Read stakes and be able to place a grade as needed; use GPS equipment
  • Complete pre-use equipment inspections to ensure equipment is in safe operating condition
  • Complete field level risk / hazard assessments prior to task and as task changes
  • Participate in the safe fueling and servicing of equipment
  • Interact with light vehicles, hauling, loading, and dumping equipment
  • Follow mine driving rules
  • Interact with other contractor and client equipment
  • Ensure compliance to all company, client and legislated safety policies, operating standards, and procedures 
  • Using adequate and suitable safety equipment, including all required PPE
  • Reviewing safe work plans/ hazard assessment with prior to job commencement and follow all requirements
  • Report any necessary or anticipated repairs to the maintenance team or supervisors immediately
  • Report all incidents, near misses or damage immediately

What Makes You the ONE

  • Minimum 2 years of experience on graders preferably 16 ft or larger
  • Experience on M series graders considered an asset
  • Haul Road Maintenance experience an asset
  • Minimum one year experience in a mining or heavy construction earthworks environment preferred
  • Valid Class 5 Driver’s License with acceptable drivers abstract (pulled within 30 days)
  • Must be proficient in English, both verbal and written
  • CSO Certification 
  • Wood Buffalo Wildlife Awareness 

What's Next

If you are chosen to move forward in our hiring process for a site-based role, you will be asked to provide the following:

  1. Have a valid Class 5 Driver’s License and ability to provide a recent acceptable Driver’s Abstract
  2. Valid CSO Certification
  3. Wood Buffalo Wildlife Awareness or Energy Safety Canada Wildlife Awareness (including Bear Awareness) (Kearl Only)
  4. Be subject to Random Testing at: Suncor, Suncor Fort Hills and Kearl sites
  5. Undergo and successfully pass the following pre-employment testing:
    • Breath Alcohol Test
    • Urine Drug Test
    • Fitness-to-Work Health Assessment
    • Audiometric Testing
    • Vision Screening
    • Criminal Record Check

Once dispatched the following processes will occur:

  1. Will receive a call from NACG to set up all required pre-employment testing
  2. An email will be sent with all required New Hire Paperwork to be filled out
  3. After all results and paperwork are received by NACG, candidates will be contacted by Site Admin to schedule orientation and confirm your start date and other site-specific details.
