Job Description

Global Purchasing & Supply Chain (GPSC) plays a critical role in enabling GM's strategy through resilient supply, competitive material cost, and disciplined capital deployment.
The Senior Manager - GPSC Accounting will provide blended technical accounting and controllership leadership across GPSC, ensuring accurate, reliable and transparent reporting, while partnering with GPSC Finance, GPSC Operations, Technical Accounting, Treasury and other key stakeholders to support complex commercial arrangements and strategic initiatives.

  • Own the monthly, quarterly and annual close process for assigned GPSC accounting areas (e.g., material cost, logistics, banking/resiliency initiatives, complex supplier arrangements), ensuring completeness, accuracy and timeliness of results.

  • Lead the assessment and documentation of accounting treatment for complex GPSC initiatives, including:

    • Long-term sourcing arrangements, commercial restructurings, and supplier support actions.

    • Resiliency investments, tariff and trade-related programs, banking structures, and other strategic GPSC programs.

  • Partner closely with GPSC Finance, GPSC Operations, Corporate Accounting, Global Technical Accounting and Treasury to:

    • Align on accounting conclusions and forecast implications.

    • Provide clear, decision-useful analysis and insight on GPSC results and initiatives.

    • Support earnings preparation, disclosures and key leadership reviews as needed.

  • Maintain a strong controllership environment for GPSC:

    • Ensure adherence to U.S. GAAP, GM accounting policies, Delegation of Authority, and GPSC/Corporate policies.

    • Oversee design and execution of key controls; proactively identify gaps and drive remediation and simplification.

    • Support internal and external audit requests and remediation activities.

  • Lead and develop a high-performing team of senior/lead analysts:

    • Set clear expectations, priorities and development plans.

    • Provide ongoing coaching and technical mentorship.

    • Foster an inclusive, collaborative culture focused on continuous improvement and controllership excellence.

  • Drive process improvement, standardization and modernization across GPSC accounting:

    • Simplify and automate recurring processes, leveraging OneStream and other digital tools where possible.

    • Improve quality and efficiency of accruals, reconciliations, analytics and reporting.

    • Embed strong documentation, playbooks and knowledge sharing across the team.

  • Support broader Controllership and GPSC priorities as needed, including rotations, special projects and ad-hoc analysis for senior leadership.

Required Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance or related field.

  • 10+ Years of Accounting Experience - Required

  • Technical Accounting Experience Required

  • CPA or equivalent professional certification, or equivalent demonstrable technical accounting experience.

  • Significant progressive experience in accounting/controllership roles, including:

    • Strong U.S. GAAP background.

    • Experience with complex technical accounting topics (e.g., revenue/contract accounting, supplier arrangements, guarantees, impairments, contingencies, restructuring or similar).

  • Experience in a corporate controllership, technical accounting, or audit environment; manufacturing or supply chain experience preferred.

  • Demonstrated ability to:

    • Lead and develop experienced senior/lead analysts.

    • Manage a high volume of work with strong prioritization and organizational skills.

    • Translate complex accounting topics into clear, practical guidance for non-accounting stakeholders.

  • Strong analytical skills with attention to detail and a high bar for quality.

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills; comfortable presenting and debating positions with senior leaders and cross-functional partners.

  • High level of integrity, sound judgment, and willingness to challenge the status quo in support of strong controllership.

Location: This role is based remotely but if you live within a 50-mile radius of (Atlanta, Austin, Detroit, Warren, Milford or Mountain View), you are expected to report to that location three times a week, at minimum.
