Salary: $13.00- $16.00 Hourly

POSITION SUMMARY

The Seasonal Park/Cemetery Maintenance Worker performs a variety of skilled and semi-skilled tasks in the maintenance and upkeep of city parks, grounds, and facilities. This position requires the operation of various equipment, including mowers, trimmers, tractors, and hand tools, to ensure the cleanliness, safety, and aesthetic appeal of park areas. The role is seasonal, typically from March through November, with flexible schedules that may include weekends and holidays.

ESSENTIAL RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES

Park Maintenance:

  • Operate equipment such as mowers, trimmers, tractors, and other maintenance tools to maintain park grounds.
  • Perform landscaping tasks, including planting, pruning, fertilizing, and watering trees, shrubs, and flowers.
  • Assist in the maintenance and repair of park facilities, including restrooms, pavilions, playgrounds, picnic tables, benches, and ball fields.
  • Perform general grounds maintenance duties, such as mowing lawns, trimming grass, and removing debris to ensure parks are aesthetically pleasing for public use.
  • Assist in the installation, maintenance, and repair of irrigation systems, including sprinkler heads and lines.
  • Perform seasonal duties, such as winterizing sprinkler systems, flushing watering systems in spring, and snow removal during winter months.

Facility Maintenance:

  • Clean and restock restrooms regularly to maintain hygiene standards.
  • Weekend cleaning and restocking restrooms regularly to maintain hygiene standards
  • Ensure pavilions, playgrounds, and other park facilities are clean, safe, and in good repair.
  • Regularly empty trash receptacles throughout park grounds and dispose of waste properly to maintain cleanliness and public health standards.
  • Ensure trash bins are emptied, and park areas remain litter-free during weekends and high-traffic periods to accommodate increased visitor use.

Customer Service:

  • Provide excellent customer service by interacting courteously with park visitors.
  • Enforce park rules and regulations to ensure the safety and enjoyment of all patrons.

Other Duties:

  • Assist with special events and recreational activities as needed.
  • Assist with weekend burials.
  • Assist with additional maintenance or park-related tasks as directed.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Education and Experience:

  • Must be at least 16 years old.
  • High school diploma or working towards the same.
  • Experience in parks maintenance, landscaping, or related field is preferred but not required.

Licenses and Certifications:

PHYSICAL DEMANDS AND WORK ENVIRONMENT

  • Tasks require a variety of physical activities, such as walking, standing, stooping, sitting, reaching, and lifting.

  • Frequent exposure to weather extremes, including hot and cold temperatures, rain, and wind.
  • Exposure to tasks that require protective gear such as safety shoes, protective eyewear, gloves, hard hats, and hearing protection.
  • Moderately heavy physical activity requires push, pull, or lift medium weights.
