ABOUT THIS POSITION
ODM is seeking an Overnight Advocate to assist our guests experiencing homelessness at the Lydia House. The advocates at ODM play a vital role in helping clients develop necessary life skills in the areas of education, health, housing, employment and relationships. Each day you get to help be part of the story for people working to make a difference and being able to provide a positive environment.
RESPONSIBILITIES
A full job description will be provided for review during the interview process.
  • Manage crisis situations as they occur.
  • Provide medication access, control, and documentation.
  • Help individuals experiencing homelessness achieve their goals.
  • Foster strong relationships to help clients build their confidence and skills.
  • Participate in ongoing training and professional development.
  • Gain hands-on experience in social services while embedded in a local organization.

What it takes:
  • High school diploma or equivalent required.
  • Must be 21 years of age.
  • Preferred job-related experience, preferably in a client services department, or an equivalent combination of education and experience that provides the required knowledge, skills and abilities.
  • Must have an understanding of client and their different behaviors.
  • Willing to work flexible hours.
  • Ability to handle stress and exercise self-control.
  • Must have the ability to implement the motivational system in a positive and effective way.
  • Basic knowledge of first aid and safety and be able to obtain CPR certification.
  • Ability to effectively interact with sensitivity and responsiveness to cultural differences present in the organization's service population, both individually and in groups.
  • Must possess a valid driver's license with a good driving record and current auto insurance, and the ability to pass an extensive background check including drug screen.
