Job description

SQL Migration SME Full Time, Remote, San Antonio, TX area Secret Clearance **This position is contingent upon contract award** Overview: Semper Valens Solutions is seeking an experienced SQL Migration Specialist to lead and execute the migration of critical database systems as part of our infrastructure modernization initiative. This role will be responsible for planning, designing, and implementing the migration of on-premises and legacy SQL databases to modern platforms (e.g., cloud-based solutions such as Azure SQL, AWS RDS, or Google Cloud SQL, and/or upgraded on-premises environments). The ideal candidate combines deep technical database expertise with strong project execution skills to ensure minimal downtime, data integrity, and performance optimization throughout the migration lifecycle. Key Responsibilities * Assess existing database architecture, schemas, and dependencies to develop comprehensive migration strategies and roadmaps * Design and execute migration plans for SQL Server, MySQL, PostgreSQL, or Oracle databases to target environments (cloud or on-premises) * Perform data mapping, transformation, and validation to ensure accuracy and completeness during migration * Develop and execute ETL (Extract, Transform, Load) processes using tools such as SSIS, Azure Data Factory, AWS DMS, or custom scripts * Conduct pre-migration testing, including performance benchmarking, compatibility assessments, and risk analysis * Optimize queries, indexes, and stored procedures for performance in the new environment * Coordinate cutover activities, including rollback planning and post-migration validation * Collaborate with application teams, DBAs, and infrastructure engineers to minimize business disruption * Document migration procedures, technical specifications, and lessons learned * Ensure compliance with data governance, security, and regulatory requirements (e.g., GDPR, HIPAA, SOC 2) throughout the migration process * Provide post-migration support, troubleshooting, and knowledge transfer to operations teams * Monitor and tune database performance following migration completion Required Qualifications * Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, or related field (or equivalent practical experience) * 4+ years of hands-on experience with SQL Server, MySQL, PostgreSQL, or Oracle database administration * Demonstrated experience executing at least one large-scale database migration project (on-premises to cloud, version upgrade, or platform migration) * Strong proficiency in T-SQL, PL/SQL, or equivalent query languages * Experience with ETL tools (SSIS, Informatica, Azure Data Factory, AWS DMS, or similar) * Solid understanding of database backup, restore, and disaster recovery procedures * Familiarity with cloud database platforms (Azure SQL Database, AWS RDS/Aurora, Google Cloud SQL) * Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with attention to detail * Excellent written and verbal communication skills for cross-functional collaboration About Semper Valens Solutions: Semper Valens Solutions, Inc.
