Job description

Minimum qualifications:
  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering or equivalent practical experience.
  • 8 years of experience in manufacturing, quality, reliability or product engineering.
  • Experience with hardware in industries such as servers, automotive, or aerospace.
  • Ability to travel up to 20% of the time as required.

Preferred qualifications:
  • Master's degree in Quality Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or equivalent practical experience.
  • Experience defining and managing component-level reliability testing.
  • Experience with optical measurement/inspection techniques and equipment.
  • Knowledge of cleanroom protocols and electrostatic discharge (ESD)/moisture-related damage (MSD) control standards relevant to optical components assembly.
  • Knowledge of high-volume manufacturing processes for optical assemblies (e.g., active and passive optical alignment, bonding, curing).

As an Optics Supplier Quality Engineer, you will work in collaboration with Suppliers, Hardware Designers, Commodity Managers, Manufacturing Engineers, and Data Center teams. You will set and manage optical component quality and reliability standards, drive supplier factory certification audits, and lead component and manufacturing site qualifications. You will actively manage NPI and sustaining quality, continuous improvements, and ensure lessons learned are actioned back to suppliers and partner teams. You will drive true root cause failure analysis and systemic corrective actions with comprehensive preventative actions. You will extract and analyze data from supplier facilities, Google production lines, and Google data centers to verify performance and drive improvements.

Responsibilities
  • Own the supplier quality and reliability for optics components, from NPI through end-of-life.
  • Lead cross-functional initiatives during NPI phases to ensure the technical and operational readiness of the Optical components supply. Be the subject matter expert on qualifying and scaling Optics technologies. Influence product roadmaps and architectural decisions by providing data-driven insights.
  • Drive the supplier qualification process through on-site audits and technical assessments. Establish data-driven processes to monitor supplier performance, provide actionable feedback, and drive continuous improvement in quality and reliability.
  • Drive the resolution of critical fleet and factory issues, lead suppliers through root cause and corrective action, failure analysis, and 8D processes.
  • Develop and implement quality plans and process controls to proactively identify and mitigate risks in the optical components supply chain.
