Job/Role Description
Jaan Health is seeking a highly motivated Software Engineer (Healthcare Cloud & Interoperability) to help design, build, and scale critical healthcare technology solutions. Reporting directly to the Lead Software Engineer, this role will focus on developing secure, scalable backend systems and healthcare data pipelines that power interoperability and care management initiatives.
The ideal candidate combines strong software engineering fundamentals with hands-on experience working with healthcare interoperability standards, cloud-native infrastructure, and modern backend technologies. This individual will work closely with product leaders, data scientists, healthcare stakeholders, and fellow engineers to build innovative solutions that improve healthcare outcomes and streamline data exchange across healthcare ecosystems.
As a key member of the engineering team, this role will contribute to architectural decisions, technical strategy, and the continued evolution of Jaan Health's healthcare technology platform.
Healthcare Interoperability
  • Design, build, and optimize healthcare data ingestion and exchange workflows.
  • Work extensively with FHIR resources, profiles, APIs, and healthcare data models.
  • Support HL7 healthcare messaging and integration workflows.
  • Build and maintain integrations with EHRs, health systems, HIEs, and third-party healthcare vendors.
  • Utilize Google Cloud Healthcare API to manage healthcare data at scale.
Data Pipelines & Cloud Infrastructure
  • Build, monitor, and optimize large-scale healthcare data pipelines.
  • Develop workflow orchestration solutions utilizing Apache Airflow and/or Google Cloud Composer.
  • Improve scalability, performance, observability, reliability, and operational efficiency across healthcare data systems.
  • Support cloud-native architecture and distributed systems design initiatives.
Software Engineering
  • Design and develop backend services using Python and Ruby on Rails.
  • Build and maintain RESTful APIs and microservices.
  • Write maintainable, scalable, and testable production-quality code.
  • Participate in architecture discussions and technical decision-making.
Cross-Functional Collaboration
  • Partner closely with Product Managers, Data Scientists, Frontend Engineers, and healthcare stakeholders.
  • Gather and translate interoperability requirements into scalable technical solutions.
  • Contribute to technical planning, roadmap discussions, and product strategy initiatives.
Requirements
  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, Information Systems, or a related technical field.
  • 4+ years of professional software engineering experience building and supporting production software systems.
  • Hands-on experience with Google Cloud Healthcare API.
  • Deep experience working with FHIR standards, resources, profiles, and healthcare data exchange.
  • Experience with HL7 healthcare messaging standards.
  • Production experience integrating with EHRs, health systems, HIEs, or healthcare technology platforms.
  • Strong Python development experience.
  • Strong Ruby on Rails development experience.
  • Experience designing, building, and consuming APIs.
  • Experience building scalable backend services and distributed systems.
  • Experience with cloud platforms, preferably Google Cloud Platform.
  • Experience building and supporting data pipelines.
  • Experience working with workflow orchestration tools.
Preferred Requirements
  • Experience with Apache Airflow and/or Google Cloud Composer.
  • Experience with healthcare integration engines such as Mirth Connect, Rhapsody, Cloverleaf, or similar platforms.
