Job Description
JobSummary:
Student Nurse Externs work in a variety of nursing practice areas throughout Good Samaritan. This role is designed for current pre-licensure licensed practical nursing and registered nursing students.
Essential Job Duties:
  • Performs or assists with the patients' activities of daily living utilizing the Good Samaritan Professional Practice Model
    • Assists the healthcare team by collecting, reporting, documenting, and delivering care to support high quality and safe outcomes.
    • Improves or maintains patient satisfaction levels by providing care with consideration of the individual needs of the patient/family and their age-specific/developmental needs.
    • Contributes to a high-performance work environment by maintaining specific knowledge and skills needed to perform tasks according to policy and procedure at Good Samaritan Hospital.
    • Hours worked will be split between Patient Care Technician assignments and Student Nurse Extern assignments.

Secondary Job Duties:
  1. Performs other duties as assigned or requested.

Minimum Qualifications:
Education -- High school graduate or GED and currently enrolled in a pre-licensure LPN, ASN, ADN, or BSN program at an accredited school of nursing. Must have completed at least one semester of nursing clinicals. At minimum, one letter of recommendation from a nursing clinical instructor must be submitted with application.
Experience -- Maintain GPA 3.2 or better and proof of good standing in the school of nursing. An unofficial transcript must be submitted with application.
Reports to: A Nurse Preceptor and is accountable to the Nurse Manager.
Application Requirements:
Applicants must submit the following with their application:
  • One letter of recommendation from a nursing clinical instructor
  • An unofficial transcript reflecting a minimum GPA of 3.2
  • Verification of completion of at least one semester of nursing clinicals
