Job description

Geneva Golf & Country Club is a treasured private club in the heart of Muscatine, Iowa, a vibrant river city nestled along the banks of the Mississippi between the Quad Cities and Iowa City and a cornerstone of the community since 1900. The club offers a championship 18-hole golf course (6,490 yards, par 71, slope 129), a vibrant pool facility, chef-crafted dining, and a rich calendar of family and social events that bring members together throughout the year. Now entering an exciting new era under the ownership of KENT Worldwide, a proudly family-owned, Muscatine-headquartered company founded in 1927, Geneva is backed by a long-term vision and a significant multi-year capital reinvestment commitment. Recent improvements include a renovated lower level and year-round golf simulators, with future plans encompassing course enhancements, a new pool experience, and thoughtful clubhouse upgrades.

The Role:

Geneva Golf & Country Club is seeking its next General Manager: a high-energy, relationship-driven leader who will serve as the chief steward of the member experience and the operational heart of the club. Reporting directly to Ownership / KENT Worldwide, this individual will lead a talented team of department heads including the Director of Golf and Club Manager. We are seeking a hospitality-driven leader with demonstrated success in membership growth, member engagement, communications and family programming, combined with significant operational experience to lead the Club. The new General Manager will have full responsibility for all facets of club operations, programming, sales and marketing, and financial performance.

This is far more than a management role. Geneva is at the beginning of a true rebirth, and the incoming General Manager will have the rare opportunity to be a central architect of that transformation. Muscatine is a city of genuine civic pride, deep business roots, and a strong appetite for a world-class private club experience and home to five Fortune 200 companies situated along the banks of the Mississippi between the Quad Cities and Iowa City. The incoming leader will have the platform, the ownership support, and the community to make a real and enduring mark.

Member Experience & Clubhouse Leadership:
  • Champion a fully family-oriented club culture that delivers exceptional, personalized experiences for members of all ages, from junior golfers and pool programming to signature social events and holiday traditions.
  • Serve as the primary relationship manager for the membership, maintaining high visibility, genuine accessibility, and a warm, Midwest-rooted interpersonal style that reflects the community Geneva serves.
  • Lead the development and execution of innovative family and social programming, including season celebrations, themed dining events, junior activities, and community-building initiatives.
  • Oversee dining, events, and hospitality operations to ensure consistently outstanding food and beverage quality, service standards, and member satisfaction across all venues.
Operational Excellence:
  • Direct all day-to-day club operations across golf, food and beverage, pool, facilities, and events, ensuring seamless coordination across departments and a consistently elevated member experience.
  • Partner with ownership to lead capital improvement projects and facility enhancements, ensuring timely execution, budget adherence, and alignment with the club's long-term strategic plan.
  • Drive a robust membership sales and marketing strategy, leveraging creative communications, digital outreach, and community engagement to grow and retain the membership base.
  • Maintain the club's physical plant, course, and amenities to the highest standards, reflecting the pride and tradition of a 125-year-old community institution.
Team Development & Financial Accountability:
  • Recruit, develop, and inspire a high-performing team that embodies Geneva's values of warmth, professionalism, and genuine hospitality, fostering a culture of accountability, growth, and pride.
  • Provide ownership with transparent, timely financial reporting and strategic recommendations that support the club's continued growth and multi-year reinvestment vision.
  • Develop and manage the annual operating and capital budgets, delivering sound financial stewardship with a clear understanding of revenue generation, cost controls, and long-range financial planning.
  • Build strong relationships with the Muscatine community, local business leaders, and civic organizations, reinforcing Geneva's role as a cornerstone of the region.
Education, Experience, & Qualifications:
  • Bachelor's degree in Hospitality Management, Business Administration, or a related field; CCM designation or active pursuit preferred.
  • Five plus years of progressive private club or hospitality leadership experience. Well-suited for a current General Manager seeking a new chapter, an accomplished Assistant General Manager from a well-regarded club, a Membership, Marketing and Communications Director ready to step into a GM role, or a Manager or General Manager from a resort with comparable family-oriented amenities.
  • Deep appreciation for Midwest culture, community values, and the interpersonal dynamics of a family-oriented private club environment.
  • Demonstrates high energy, genuine enthusiasm, and a hands-on leadership style that inspires teams and earns member trust.
  • Exceptional sales, marketing, and communications skills with a proven ability to grow membership, build community, and tell a compelling club story across multiple platforms.
  • Strong financial acumen with experience managing operating budgets, capital projects, and multi-departmental P&L accountability.
Why Geneva Golf & Country Club?
  • A rare opportunity to lead a beloved community institution through a transformative era, with direct involvement in new construction, renovation, and membership growth in one of Iowaโ€™s most storied private clubs.
