Project Overview:

Bechtel Mining and Metals offers engineering, procurement, and construction services for customers in the mining sector across multiple commodities including Iron Ore, Bauxite, Alumina, Aluminium, Copper, Gold, Coal, Lithium and Rare Earths markets.

The M&M global business unit also has offices in Brisbane, Perth and Adelaide in Australia along with execution units in the United States, Peru, Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, India and other project locations around the world.

Job Summary:

As Bechtel accelerates the integration of innovation and artificial intelligence (AI) into project delivery, effective communication is critical to adoption, understanding, and value realisation.

This role is not a traditional communications position. It is a strategic enabler of transformation, ensuring our initiatives are clearly understood, widely adopted, and consistently promoted across projects, offices, and leadership forums globally.

The Communications Specialist will lead the development and execution of communications for our innovation and AI implementation program (part of the EPC transformation team and includes several verticals; AI applications, innovation initiatives, field robotics and data strategy) working closely with global innovation teams, project teams and functional leadership to translate complex technical initiatives into clear, compelling, and actionable messaging.

Major Responsibilities:
    • Develop and deliver clear, engaging, and accessible content explaining AI tools, initiatives, and outcomes
    • Translate complex technical concepts into simple, audience-focused messaging
    • Partner with global AI, digital, and innovation teams to align messaging and priorities
    • Support preparation of presentation material for senior leadership and other business line teams
    • Create a suite of communications materials, including:
      • Leadership talking points and briefings
      • Internal campaigns and engagement materials
      • Project case studies and success stories
      • External content showcasing our capability and innovation
    • Support both internal awareness and external positioning of initiatives
    • Ensure consistent messaging across regions, projects, and functions
    • Collaborate with project teams to capture and promote real-world applications and benefits
    • Contribute to broader communications strategies that position Bechtel as a leader in innovation.

Education and Experience Requirements:
  • Requires bachelor's degree (or international equivalent) and 8-10  years of relevant experience or 12-14 years of relevant work experience
Required Knowledge and Skills:
  • Tertiary qualification in communications, journalism, or a related discipline; but candidates with qualifications in technology, data science or artificial intelligence combined with strong communication capability, are also encouraged to apply.
  • Proven ability to translate complex or technical topics into clear, engaging content
  • Experience in delivering large-scale programs or transformation initiatives is highly desirable
  • Strong writing, storytelling, and content development capability
  • Ability to operate effectively in a global, matrixed organisation
  • Demonstrated ability to influence stakeholders and manage competing priorities
  • Experience developing both internal and external communications materials.
  • Ability to effectively work in MS PowerPoint with intermediate graphic design capabilities

  • Based in Brisbane, with global collaboration across time zones
  • Spanish and English language capability highly regarded
  • Demonstrated interest in or exposure to AI, digital, or innovation initiatives is an advantage.
