Job description

As a Director of Software Engineering at JPMorganChase within the Asset & Wealth Management, Global Equity Team, you lead a technical area and drive impact within teams, technologies, and projects across departments. Utilize your in-depth knowledge of software, applications, technical processes, and product management to drive multiple complex projects and initiatives, while serving as a primary decision maker for your teams and be a driver of innovation and solution delivery.

In Global Equity Technology at JPMorgan Chase, you lead the US technology function serving our equity investment desks. You drive delivery excellence, partner directly with senior business stakeholders, and accelerate our AI-first engineering agenda. You are hands-on technically and accountable for engineering standards, solution delivery, and innovation across the US footprint.

Job responsibilities

  • Own end-to-end delivery of technology solutions serving US and Global Equity desks
  • Drive platform modernization, ensuring scalable, resilient, and well-architected systems
  • Maintain hands-on involvement in the codebase - conduct code reviews, deep-dive into technical issues, and lead by example as a practicing engineer
  • Champion AI-driven development practices and drive adoption of AI engineering patterns across the team
  • Collaborate closely with the global engineering team to ensure consistency and drive globalization of platforms and practices
  • Build and grow the US equity tech team; foster a culture of ownership and continuous improvement
  • Provide production support leadership for US trading hours and Asia Open hours

Required qualifications, capabilities, and skills

  • Formal training or certification on software engineering concepts and 10+ years applied experience. In addition,  5+ years of experience leading technologists to manage, anticipate and solve complex technical items within your domain of expertise
  • Proven engineering leader with deep expertise building and delivering scalable platforms within Equities / Asset Management environments using Java based backend architecture and modern UI technologies including JavaScript and TypeScript. Ability to partner closely with business stakeholders, product leads, and cross-functional technology teams to translate complex business needs into strategic technology solutions and measurable delivery outcomes.
  • Hands-on enterprise software development experience; in-depth understanding of software design principles, in particular event-driven architecture; able to deep-dive into complex codebases and debug production issues
  • Exceptional communicator and influencer with demonstrated success leading small but high performing engineering team in fast paced financial services organizations. Operates with strong ownership and independence, proactively driving initiatives without requiring detailed direction, building trusted partnerships across technology and the business, managing stakeholder expectations, and ensuring Equities technology platforms are strategically aligned, resilient, and effectively delivered end-to-end.
  • Exceptional stakeholder management and communication - ability to build credibility quickly with senior business leaders (MD/CIO level) and articulate technical topics to non-technical audiences

  • Hands-on enterprise software development experience; in-depth understanding of software design principles, in particular event-driven architecture; able to deep-dive into complex codebases and debug production issues
  • AI practitioner - actively builds with AI tools and hands-on experience using agentic coding tools (Claude Code, Codex, Copilot etc)

Preferred qualifications, capabilities, and skills

  • Practical cloud-native experience (CI/CD, infrastructure-as-code, observability) is a plus
