Job description

Description:

UDC is seeking two GIS Administrators to join our GIS Services Practice! UDC clients require on-call staff to respond to tier 2 trouble tickets to solve our customers’ issues when encountered. UDC focuses on enterprise solutions that leverage existing vendors and UDC specific frameworks for desktop, web, and mobile device solutions.


This position participates in the problem solving, building, and tuning of GIS applications and database environments.



What you will do

  • Understands GIS concepts: Datum and Projection concepts, X/Y vs Lat/Long usage and translation, Field Software, Symbology, Annotation, Dimensions, Replication, Long Transaction editing, System Sync options, Spatial indices
  • Troubleshooting: Solving issues for GIS users that impact daily productivity including; login issues, ArcFM and ArcGIS launch issues, Error codes, License check out, GIS tools not working, Database and Program connection issues, Toolbars missing, Sessions or Versions not posting, Data Schema and Domain additions, Permission issues, etc.
  • System Maintenance: Install, configure, upgrade, and patch ArcGIS Server, Portal for ArcGIS, and ArcGIS Data Store.
  • Data Management & Versioning: Manage multi-user editing workflows, data versioning, replication, and spatial data quality assurance.
  • User & Security Management: Manage GIS user accounts, roles, permissions, and licensing.
  • Performance Monitoring: Monitor system health, tune geodatabase performance, and troubleshoot connectivity or map service issues.
  • Backup & Recovery: Develop and execute automated backup, restore, and disaster recovery procedures for GIS infrastructure.
  • Automation & Scripting: Write and maintain scripts (Python) to automate GIS workflows and ETL (Extract, Translate, Load) processes
  • Database Administration: Design, implement, and maintain enterprise geodatabases (ArcSDE) on relational database management systems like SQL Server, Oracle, or PostgreSQL.
  • Works directly with UDC Product Owners, UDC Project Managers and External Clients.
  • Utilizes GIS Industry tools for collecting GIS Desktop application performance information and GIS web application performance information
  • Utilizes Network Management Industry tools to find GIS network related performance issues: number of hops, size of buffers, utilization of network, number of NICs, steady low utilization of network indicating poor application usage of RDBMS technology
  • Investigate and resolve (or recommend resolution options) for identified defects or issues with developed solutions.
  • Participate in UDC mentor program to stay current on evolving technology and participate in the UDC architect community.




What we look for from you

  • Education: Bachelor's degree in GIS, Geography, Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related field.
  • Experience: Typically 3–8+ years of post-graduate experience in managing desktop and enterprise GIS environments and relational databases.
  • Certifications: Preferred certifications include Esri ArcGIS Enterprise Administration or GIS Professional (GISP).
  • Equivalent combination of education and experience

Technical Skills

  • Deep knowledge of Esri ArcGIS Desktop, ArcGIS Portal, ArcGIS Server, ArcGIS Enterprise components and ArcGIS Pro.
  • Working knowledge of Schneider ArcFM, Session Manager, Geodatabase Manager
  • Understanding of Linear Referencing and Advanced Pipeline referencing
  • Expertise in enterprise database management (Oracle, SQL Server, PostgreSQL).
  • Strong understanding of versioning, schema design, and spatial data modeling.
  • Proficiency in scripting and automation tools (e.g., Python, PowerShell).
  • Familiarity with web mapping services, REST endpoints, and cloud infrastructures (AWS/Azure).



Compensation Range: $85,000-$115,000/annually. The compensation that is offered to a successful candidate will depend on the candidate’s skills, qualifications, experience, and location.
