Job description

We are seeking a highly skilled GIS Application Developer to support the development and maintenance of geographic information system (GIS) applications for a state transportation organization. This position will support transportation asset management and data governance programs through the development of GIS-based applications, enterprise GIS solutions, data models, dashboards, and technical documentation.


The ideal candidate will have strong experience with ArcGIS, GIS data management, Python scripting, and GIS application development, along with excellent communication, troubleshooting, analytical, and technical writing skills.


Job Responsibilities

  • Develop, maintain, test, and support GIS-based data collection applications.
  • Create and maintain feature classes and related tables, publish map services, and develop web mapping applications.
  • Support enterprise GIS implementation and maintain GIS applications, feature classes, and metadata.
  • Develop and maintain GIS solutions that support transportation asset management and data governance initiatives.
  • Provide direct technical support for CADD/GIS software and related hardware systems.
  • Perform software testing, troubleshooting, routine maintenance, and system support.
  • Create dashboards using business intelligence, analytics, and geospatial tools.
  • Provide phone and online support and maintain accurate problem-report records.
  • Maintain data backups and archives and perform data retrieval from backup systems as needed.
  • Monitor system status and data integrity and identify and resolve issues.
  • Develop and maintain Python scripts to support GIS applications and processes.
  • Support data governance projects and related activities as assigned.
  • Develop data models and Technical Requirements Specifications to support application development.
  • Translate business needs and requirements into effective GIS solutions.
  • Create and update technical documentation, manuals, guides, and other materials based on business needs.
  • Collaborate with technical and business resources across multiple functional areas.
  • Manage assigned tasks, timelines, and resources to meet project deadlines.


Qualifications

  • Four-year college degree or equivalent technical study.
  • 5 years of experience with ArcGIS for Desktop.
  • 3 years of experience editing and maintaining data in a GIS environment.
  • 1 year of experience with Python or similar scripting languages; ArcPy knowledge is a plus.
  • Microsoft Power BI experience is highly desired.
  • ArcGIS Field Maps experience is highly desired.
  • ArcGIS Server (ArcServer) experience is highly desired.
