REPORTS TO: Senior Director of Development & Communications

SCHEDULE: Monday-Friday (9:00 AM-5:30 PM)

LOCATION: Venice, CA, Access Center, Hybrid

STATUS: Full-Time, 40 hours/week, Non-Exempt

Safe Place for Youth (SPY) is the leading service provider for youth experiencing or at-risk of homelessness in West Los Angeles. Founded in 2011, our agency offers trauma-informed, low barrier programs that support young people in exiting the streets and achieving stability. ABOUT THE ROLE:

The Development Coordinator is a dynamic and essential member of the Safe Place for Youth (SPY) team, providing critical administrative and programmatic support across the Development department. This role is responsible for assisting with all aspects of fundraising, donor relations, community partnerships, and events.

Requirements:

WHAT YOU’LL DO:

  • Serve as a primary point of contact for development inquiries, responding to phone calls and emails from donors, community partners, and supporters with professionalism and gratitude.
  • Generate timely and personalized gift acknowledgments and tax receipts.
  • Assist in the planning, logistics, and execution of fundraising events, from small donor gatherings to our annual gala.
  • Support financial reconciliation between Development and Finance
  • Support the coordination of direct mail and online fundraising appeals.
  • Conduct introductory research on prospective individual & corporate donors.
  • Serve as the staff liaison for SPY’s Next Generation Board by supporting their fundraising events, marketing/advocacy campaigns, and awareness building.
  • Provide administrative support to the Development team as needed, including donation pick-ups (usually in West Los Angeles), scheduling meetings, preparing materials, reconciling credit cards, assisting with partner outreach, event coordination, and stewardship activities.
  • Researching the local/national corporate landscape to find mission-aligned partnerships.
  • Creating custom decks to outreach to corporations.
  • Attending corporate activations, volunteer days, and teach-ins to build awareness and relationships.
  • Assist in drafting and scheduling engaging content for SPY’s social media channels (Instagram, Facebook, LinkedIn, etc.).
  • Help create and distribute email newsletters and other digital communications using platforms like Mailchimp.
  • Support the maintenance and updating of the SPY website with current information, stories, and events.
  • Help schedule and gather youth stories, staff interviews, and program data for use in communications materials, always upholding a respectful and empowering narrative.
  • Other duties as assigned to support the mission of the organization.

WHAT YOU’LL BRING:

  • 1-3 years of administrative or coordinator experience, preferably in a nonprofit development
  • Demonstrated experience in supporting fundraising activities (like gift processing or donor relations)
  • Prior experience assisting with event planning and logistics is highly preferred.
  • A proven ability to manage multiple projects, prioritize tasks, and meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
  • Must have an impeccable eye for detail, especially in gift processing and public-facing communications.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to draft professional, personalized, and empathetic communications for donors, partners, and social media.
  • A deep and genuine passion for Safe Place for Youth's mission and a commitment to advancing the well-being of young people experiencing homelessness.
  • The ability to handle sensitive donor information and youth stories with confidentiality, integrity, and respect.
  • A strong understanding of and commitment to equity, inclusion, and respectful, empowering storytelling
  • Travel needed for donation pick-ups, event walk thoughts, and donor meetings across Los Angeles

WORK ENVIRONMENT AND PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

  • Prolonged periods of sitting at a desk and working on a computer.
  • Changes in the environment, such as the office or outdoors.
  • Physical effort/lifting, such as sedentary- up to 15-20 pounds at times.
