POSITION OVERVIEW:

We are seeking an experienced Bilingual Technical Writer (m/f/d) (German-English) to join our Global Product Management Operations team. This role is ideal for a linguistically skilled communicator who excels at Translating complex technical information into clear, precise, and accessible documentation. The successful candidate will handle both content creation and translation management, ensuring that updates are reflected consistently across all language versions.

PURPOSE:

As a Bilingual Technical Writer (m/f/d) (German-English) at Syntax, you will be responsible for creating and managing comprehensive documentation for our products and services. You will lead documentation and translation projects and collaborate closely with cross-functional teams to ensure that our documentation meets the highest standards of quality and usability. This role requires native or near-native proficiency in German and English, technical expertise, and the ability to communicate complex technical concepts in a clear and concise manner. The successful candidate will handle both content creation and translation management, ensuring that updates are reflected consistently across all language versions. 

 

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Documentation Development:
    • Develop and implement documentation standards, templates, terminology and best practices.
    • Create and maintain high-quality technical documentation, including service descriptions, statements of work content, and website content in German and English.
    • Develop clear and concise content that is easy to understand and use, ensuring consistency and accuracy.
    • Collaborate with subject matter experts, including product managers, product owners, and legal, to gather information and ensure documentation reflects the latest product features and updates.
    • Translate service descriptions and statement of work content between English and German, ensuring technical and semantic accuracy and cultural suitability.
    • Manage translation workflows, ensuring timely updates across all language versions of documentation.
    • Coordinate with external translation agencies or freelancers, managing quality, schedules, and costs.
    • Maintain translation memory and terminology databases, ensuring consistent tone, terminology, and style.
    • Proofread and edit machine- and AI-translated content to meet company standards and terminology.
  • Project Management and Leadership:
    • Lead documentation projects from inception to completion, ensuring timely delivery and adherence to quality standards.
    • Coordinate with cross-functional teams to manage documentation schedules and deliverables.
    • Track and report on documentation progress, identifying and addressing any issues or challenges.
  • User-Centered Design:
    • Understand the needs and preferences of the target audience, ensuring documentation is tailored to their needs.
    • Conduct user research and usability testing to gather feedback and improve documentation quality.
    • Create visual aids, such as diagrams, screenshots, and flowcharts, to enhance the clarity and usability of documentation.
  • Content Management:
    • Organize and manage documentation in a content management system (CMS) or repository.
    • Ensure documentation is up-to-date, well-organized, and easily accessible to users.
    • Implement and maintain documentation standards and templates to ensure consistency across all documents.
  • Collaboration & Communication:
    • Work closely with cross-functional teams, including engineering, product management, marketing, sales, legal, and customer success, to gather information and ensure documentation quality and accuracy.
    • Participate in project meetings and reviews to stay informed about product developments and changes.
    • Provide writing and editing support to other teams as needed, ensuring all content meets quality standards.

 

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Education:
    • Bachelor's degree in Technical Writing, Translation, Communications, Computer Science, or related field. Advanced degree preferred.
  • Experience:
    • Minimum of 5 years of experience in technical writing, preferably in the technology or software industry.
    • Proven track record of creating high-quality technical documentation, including content suitable for statements of work.
  • Skills & Competencies:
    • Native or near-native proficiency in English and German (written and spoken).
    • Excellent writing, editing, and proofreading skills in English and German.
    • Strong technical proficiency and the ability to understand complex technical concepts.
    • Proficiency in documentation tools and software and related style sheets (e.g., Microsoft Word, SharePoint).
    • Experience with component content management systems (CCMS).
    • Strong attention to detail and accuracy.
    • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
    • Strong organizational and time management skills.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Spanish and French proficiency is a plus but not required.
  • Experience with terminology management tools and processes.
  • Experience with Agile development methodologies.
  • Experience with no-code AI development.
