Job description

A pediatric geneticist specializes in diagnosing, managing, and treating genetic disorders in children. Their responsibilities include:

1. Diagnosis and Evaluation
  • Assess children with birth defects, developmental delays, intellectual disabilities, and genetic syndromes.
  • Interpret family history and assess hereditary risks.
  • Conduct physical examinations to identify genetic disorders.
  • Order and interpret genetic tests (e.g., chromosomal analysis, whole exome sequencing).
2. Genetic Counseling
  • Explain genetic conditions, inheritance patterns, and risks to families.
  • Discuss potential outcomes and implications of genetic disorders.
  • Provide guidance on family planning options, including prenatal and carrier testing.
3. Treatment and Management
  • Develop individualized treatment plans for children with genetic conditions.
  • Collaborate with other specialists (neurologists, cardiologists, endocrinologists, etc.).
