Position Overview

Our organization is in search of a Senior Medical Director of Precision Medicine to spearhead the strategic and operational growth of our Precision Medicine initiative. This role will involve guiding the clinical integration of genetic and genomic services throughout the health system, as well as overseeing the development and execution of research and educational programs. The ideal candidate will create exemplary clinical, educational, and research frameworks that resonate with our mission.

The Senior Medical Director will work closely with the Genomics Oversight Steering Committee (GOSC), various clinical departments, and academic collaborators to tackle workforce education challenges, enhance access to genomic testing, and establish coordinated care and data infrastructures. Additionally, this position will promote translational research, foster industry collaborations, and encourage targeted philanthropy to elevate our organization’s status as a leader in precision medicine, ensuring readiness for new genomic technologies and care standards. This is a part-time leadership role, with the possibility of an additional part-time commitment for clinical responsibilities.

What We Offer
  • A collaborative, team-oriented care model within a comprehensive academic health system.

  • A competitive compensation package that includes relocation support, reimbursement for continuing medical education (CME), and malpractice insurance.

  • A robust benefits package featuring Paid Time Off, CME time, retirement plans with employer contributions, and medical, dental, vision, and life/disability insurance.

Qualifications
  • MD, DO, or an equivalent medical degree is required.

  • Board certification in Medical Genetics, Genomic Medicine, or a related specialty is essential.

  • Eligibility for medical licensure in the State of Maine is mandatory.

  • Preferred candidates will have advanced training (fellowship or graduate-level) in clinical genomics, molecular diagnostics, or precision medicine.

  • A minimum of 10-15 years of progressively responsible experience in clinical genomics, precision medicine, or translational research, including leadership roles in an academic medical center or similar environment, is required.

  • Proven success in implementing genomic testing programs, clinical integration strategies, and/or population genomics initiatives is necessary.

  • Academic rank of Associate Professor or higher is preferred.

Key Responsibilities

The Senior Medical Director will oversee operational and administrative functions for Precision Medicine, including:

  • Leading operational aspects of the Precision Medicine program, encompassing planning, implementation, evaluation, and ongoing management of initiatives and materials.

  • Collaborating with system leadership to support strategic planning and vision development for Precision Medicine.

  • Managing program administration and governance, including preparing materials for GOSC and workgroup meetings, agendas, minutes, and tracking follow-up actions.

  • Overseeing financial operations of the program, including budget development, monthly reconciliation, reporting, and coordination with Financial Services.

  • Coordinating data collection, tracking, analysis, and reporting to facilitate program evaluation and quarterly and annual reporting.

  • Facilitating the integration of Precision Medicine initiatives across the organization by collaborating with department leaders to develop workflows, infrastructure, and new initiatives.

  • Leading internal and external communication, education, and engagement efforts, including website updates, educational materials, marketing initiatives, and promoting a culture of safety and regulatory compliance.

Additional Skills
  • Experience with clinical data systems, biorepositories, or informatics infrastructures is highly desirable.

  • A proven track record of scholarly activity, grant funding, or translational research is preferred.
