Senior Technical Architect, Zuora

Location: Remote within US (not limited to the states that the job is tagged to)

Key Responsibilities
  • Lead end-to-end solution architecture for Zuora Billing, including subscription lifecycle, amendments, renewals, cancellations, usage billing, rating, invoicing, credit memos, bill runs, and billing operations.
  • Design and govern Zuora solutions that support subscription, consumption-based, and hybrid billing models, ensuring scalability, maintainability, and alignment to Lead-to-Cash architecture.
  • Architect and optimize Zuora Workflows, including orchestration, error handling, retry logic, notifications, monitoring, exception management, and operational runbooks.
  • Lead architecture for mediation and usage processing, including usage ingestion, transformation, validation, aggregation, rating readiness, failure handling, and reconciliation.
  • Partner with Salesforce, Revenue Systems, Finance, Product Operations, Billing Operations, and Engineering teams to ensure end-to-end alignment across Quote-to-Cash processes.
  • Evaluate downstream impacts of billing changes across Zuora Revenue, Workday Finance, reporting, tax, customer portal, entitlements, and revenue accounting processes.
  • Design and document integration patterns between Salesforce, Zuora Billing, Zuora Revenue, Workday, ServiceNow, AWS, middleware platforms, and customer-facing systems.
  • Establish design standards and best practices for Zuora configuration, workflows, billing rules, charge models, usage processing, invoice behavior, and data integrity.
  • Drive solution design reviews with Product Owners, Technical Leads, developers, BSAs, QA, Billing Ops, and business stakeholders.
  • Identify architectural risks, technical debt, operational gaps, and process weaknesses; recommend pragmatic solutions and sequencing options.
  • Support complex incident and defect analysis by identifying root cause, assessing platform and process impact, and recommending durable corrective actions.
  • Partner with QA and business stakeholders to define end-to-end testing strategy, regression scope, usage/rating scenarios, billing validation, and release readiness criteria.
  • Guide teams on monitoring and observability requirements for workflows, mediation jobs, integrations, bill runs, and customer-impacting billing processes.
  • Ensure solutions comply with change management, access controls, audit expectations, SOX requirements, and financial data integrity standards.
  • Create and maintain architecture artifacts, including solution designs, workflow diagrams, integration maps, data flows, decision records, failure-mode analysis, and operational support models.
  • Mentor Product Owners, BSAs, Tech Leads, developers, and support teams on Zuora Billing capabilities, workflow patterns, mediation design, and billing architecture principles.
Required Qualifications
  • 10+ years of experience in solution architecture, enterprise applications, billing systems, or Quote-to-Cash platform delivery.
  • Deep hands-on experience with Zuora Billing in complex enterprise or SaaS environments.
  • Extensive experience designing and supporting Zuora Workflows, including orchestration, error handling, retry design, monitoring, notifications, and operational controls.
  • Strong experience with mediation, usage ingestion, usage transformation, usage validation, aggregation, rating, and exception handling.
  • Strong understanding of subscription billing concepts, including rate plans, charges, amendments, renewals, cancellations, bill runs, invoice generation, credit memos, payments, and adjustments.
  • Experience designing billing solutions for usage-based, consumption-based, subscription, and hybrid monetization models.
  • Experience integrating Zuora Billing with platforms such as Salesforce, Zuora Revenue, Workday, ServiceNow, AWS, middleware, tax engines, customer portals, or entitlement systems.
  • Strong understanding of Quote-to-Cash / Lead-to-Cash processes and downstream impacts across Finance, Billing Operations, Revenue Accounting, Sales Operations, and Customer Support.
  • Ability to translate complex business needs into scalable architecture and communicate tradeoffs clearly to technical and non-technical stakeholders.
  • Experience leading design reviews, architecture governance, impact analysis, and technical decision-making across cross-functional teams.
  • Strong analytical and troubleshooting skills, including the ability to diagnose complex billing, workflow, integration, and data issues.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to produce clear architecture documentation, decision records, and executive-ready summaries.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience with Zuora Revenue, revenue recognition processes, RevPro integrations, or ASC 606-related downstream impacts.
  • Experience with Salesforce CPQ, Salesforce Revenue Cloud Advanced, Workday Finance, ServiceNow, AWS, or enterprise middleware platforms.
  • Experience designing billing observability frameworks, including dashboards, alerting, workflow monitoring, exception queues, and operational metrics.
  • Experience with API design, event-driven architecture, batch processing, asynchronous processing, and integration governance.
  • Experience operating in SOX-controlled or regulated environments with strong change control, access control, audit, and data integrity requirements.
  • Experience with GitHub, CI/CD pipelines, release automation, environment management, or DevOps practices for enterprise applications.
  • Experience supporting large-scale transformation programs, phased cutovers, dual-system operations, or legacy-to-future-state migrations.
  • Familiarity with AI-enabled operational support, including incident summarization, anomaly detection, RCA assistance, or knowledge management use cases.
  • Zuora certifications or formal Zuora implementation partner experience are a plus.
Compensation

This role has a market-competitive salary with an anticipated base compensation range listed below. Actual salaries will vary depending on a candidate’s experience, qualifications, skills, and location. This role might also be eligible for a commission or performance-based bonus opportunities.
