The Elessent Clean Technologies plant in Martinez, CA, currently has an opening for a Maintenance Mechanic. The plant is a 24/7 manufacturing operation dedicated to the production of sulfuric acid catalyst pellets. This is primarily a day shift position (M-F) with some overtime in the form of extended hours, on call for all or any part of a workweek, and occasional evening or weekend callout work. Elessent offers an exciting, safety-focused place to work. All employees are required to conduct themselves in alignment with the plant's behavioral expectations of safe, respectful, honest, candid, collaborative, creative, solutions-focused, interdependent, and with good operational discipline. The Martinez plant is a smoke-free work environment. Maintenance team members are responsible for the safe removal, assembly/disassembly, repair, installation, improvement, and preventative maintenance of highly specialized production equipment within an industrial chemical process.
Maintenance day employees work eight-hour shifts-Monday through Friday with evening and/or weekend overtime required, as needed, to support plant turnarounds, manpower shortages, and other critical plant needs. Maintenance employees participate in plant committees, continuous improvement activities, and incident investigations, etc., and use desktop computers with the Microsoft Office suite. Other special projects or duties assigned as needed.
Physical requirements: The tasks of this position generally require duties to be performed by:
  • Stand; walk; and use arms and hands to handle, feel, reach, pull, turn, grasp, and carry items.
  • Stoop, kneel, crouch, and crawl.
  • See up close and far away.
  • Talk and hear.
  • Frequently lift and/or move up to 50 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move up to 100 pounds.
  • Be able and willing to wear all PPE required for a chemical industrial manufacturing environment and completion of maintenance work tasks.
  • Be able and willing to wear a respirator both continuously and intermittently throughout the shift.
  • Be able to work up to 12 hours/day-at any time of day.
  • Climb up and down staircases, ladders, and scaffolding on an hourly/daily basis to perform job tasks

Basic Maintenance Skills (Required)
  • General mechanical skills for troubleshooting, preventative maintenance, and attention to detail.
  • Pneumatics knowledge.
  • Proficiency with power tools like grinders, drills, and saws.
  • Familiarity with lubrication systems.
  • Competence in machining (lathe, mill, saws, etc.).
  • Solid foundational understanding of electrical systems.
  • General metal fabrication skills.
  • Ability to operate a forklift.

Advanced Maintenance Skills (Preferred)
  • Welding expertise (stick, TIG, and stainless).
  • Proficiency in machine alignment.
  • Capability for pump rebuilds.
  • Knowledge of construction and/or inspection of scaffolding.
  • Skill in rigging and hoisting.

Education/Experience Requirements
  • Minimum requirement: High School Diploma or equivalent.
  • Preferred: Associate's degree, trade certifications, or other relevant professional certifications.
  • Minimum of 2 years of industrial plant maintenance experience, with 5 or more years preferred.
  • Competency in safely using maintenance tools and equipment.
  • Excellent communication skills.
  • Ability to read technical drawings and schematics.
  • Proficiency with desktop computer skills, including Microsoft Office.
