Gallery Guard

Relief Gallery Guards provide coverage days, evenings, weekends and holidays as needed for additional staffing or to fill in for absences. The position pays $17.00 hourly or $19.00 hourly with 5 years or more of verifiable security-related experience in law enforcement, military, or a security field.

Gallery Guards are responsible for maintaining the safety and security of visitors, staff, faculty, students, the art collection, and museum facilities. They help protect against theft, vandalism, and fire while ensuring a welcoming environment. Munson Gallery Guards provide professional, courteous assistance to visitors and employees, and respond promptly and effectively to emergencies using sound judgment.

The Museum of Art is open to the public Tuesday through Saturday, as well as Sunday afternoons. Additional hours may be scheduled for evening programs, special events, or exhibitions.

Requirements

  • NYS Guard license is required.
  • Previous experience and familiarity with security equipment preferred.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills required with ability to operate two-way radio and effectively communicate with Museum of Art visitors and employees.
  • AAS degree in criminal justice, previous security or law enforcement experience preferred.
  • May be asked to serve on Munson interdivisional committees

MENTAL AND VISUAL DEMAND:

Close mental and visual attention required to perform work dealing primarily with the safety of visitors, staff, faculty, students and visitors. Using general office and computer equipment and/or extensive reading.

ENVIRONMENTAL CONDITIONS:

Work is performed in an internal environment. Occasional seasonal events may require work in an outdoor setting.

COMPUTER MACHINE & EQUIPMENT SKILLS:

Computer skills that include the ability to send/receive e-mail messages and prepare and submit required reports. Working knowledge/use of computer, telephone system, security equipment required.

PHYSICAL ACTIVITIES & DEMANDS:

Requires frequent standing, sitting, walking and must possess the ability to exert up to 10 lbs. of force occasionally, and up to 5 lbs. of force frequently. Weights over 50 lbs. should only be moved with assistance.

REQUIRED TRAININGS:

Complete required initial, annual, and as needed trainings, including but not limited to: Safety Trainings, NYS Sexual Harassment Training, and other trainings as assigned.

The final candidate will be required to complete a post-offer, pre-employment background check.
