Job Title

GNSS Field Engineer

Job Description

Edgerton is a premier, earthmoving, and underground utility company. We seek out opportunities where our depth of experience and creativity can add value, beyond the earthmoving phase, to the entire project. With skilled employees, cutting edge technology, and a forward-thinking approach, we take pride in our work and consistently exceed expectations.

Our employees and customers know that Edgerton is more than just a company. We are a team of people with a shared culture. We value integrity, each other, and our customers. We communicate transparently with creative solutions.

The role of the Engineering Department is to support Pre-Construction and Field Operations. We are here to make other people more efficient and effective in their work. This position will be based on our project sites in Cape Canaveral, Florida. The GNSS Field Engineer position provides that support by performing the following work:

Responsibilities

  • Become an expert in the use of Trimble survey instruments: GPS Rover (SCS900 & Siteworks), Robotic Total Station, Laser level.
  • Perform project surveys: Preconstruction topographic survey, post construction as built survey, quality control check survey, and interim construction surveys.
    • As-built surveys are critical to the functioning of the project, anything that goes into the ground will need to be surveyed, whether installed by Edgerton or others.
    • When possible, calculate quantities in field for your project supervisor using the COGO functionality within the data collector.
  • Perform project layout: staking for erosion control, staking for clearing limits, staking for planning purposes, staking and hubbing for utilities, set grade stakes for non-gps equipment, curb and gutter hubbing, etc.
    • Place stakes in a clear and neat fashion: clear handwriting, plumb stakes, even spacing.
  • Support project supervisors in any way you can to help them better manage the crews.
  • Be a team player; assist other trades with topo and layout as requested and as you have time/ability.
  • Become generally familiar with the GPS machine control systems (GCS900 and Earthworks) to be able to provide first level support to operators.
  • While orientation to our approach will be provided and we will continue to share what we learn, you will be expected to independently educate yourself on the capabilities and application of our software and equipment. Do not wait to be taught. Do not wait for directions. Take ownership.
  • We expect you to become an expert user of Siteworks, SCS900, Laser levels, Robotic Total Stations, and aerial drone survey instruments.
  • In addition to your focus on survey software and tools, look for opportunities to learn and implement new technologies into our processes.
  • Edgerton steadily invests in staying on or near the cutting edge of technology. Staying on top of developments requires input from everyone. Monitor publications for announcements or descriptions of new software, hardware and methods that might improve Safety, Quality or Efficiency at Edgerton.
  • This position will report to the Project Lead Surveyor and will complete tasks as assigned, which may include being assigned to a specific crew.
  • Small Unmanned Aerial Vehicles ("drone") Flight Operator
    • Edgerton utilized aerial photogrammetry on our projects for updated aerial images for construction progress documentation and 3D point cloud creation for topographic surveys.
    • Study and pass the Part107 FAA exam within the first week of employment
    • Perform routine and on request drone flights for all our projects
    • Use GPS rover to survey in coordinates of ground control points and data integrity check points
