Survey Crew Chief
Full-TimeColumbus, Ohio AreaPrimarily Local Field Work
The Position
We're looking for an experienced Survey Crew Chief to lead field survey operations on a variety of civil and infrastructure projects throughout the Columbus area.
This is a hands-on position for someone who enjoys working in the field, leading a crew, operating modern survey equipment, and taking ownership of the work from setup through completion. Most projects are local, providing a consistent opportunity to work close to home rather than spending the majority of your time traveling.
What You'll Do
  • Lead and coordinate the daily activities of a field survey crew
  • Perform and verify boundary, topographic, and construction survey work
  • Perform construction staking and layout
  • Establish, maintain, and verify survey control
  • Operate GPS/GNSS, total stations, and electronic data collectors
  • Read and interpret civil, survey, and construction plans
  • Identify and resolve field conditions, measurement issues, and layout questions
  • Communicate with surveyors, engineers, project managers, contractors, and office staff
  • Maintain accurate field notes, measurements, and project documentation
  • Maintain and care for survey equipment
  • Follow project-specific safety requirements and maintain a professional presence on active jobsites
What We're Looking For
  • Previous experience as a Survey Crew Chief, Party Chief, Survey Crew Leader, or Survey Technician
  • Strong hands-on field surveying experience
  • Experience with boundary, topographic, and/or construction surveying
  • Experience leading or directing a field crew
  • Ability to read and interpret survey and civil construction plans
  • Ability to work independently and make sound decisions in the field
  • Strong communication and organizational skills
  • Valid driver's license and ability to travel locally to project sites

This is an opportunity for an experienced field survey professional to take ownership of field operations while working on a variety of civil and infrastructure projects throughout the Columbus area.
You'll have the opportunity to lead a crew, work with modern survey technology, interact directly with project teams, and play an important role in getting projects completed accurately and efficiently.
Most work is local to the Columbus area.
Requirements
Experience with modern survey equipment is important for this position.
Trimble and/or GeoMax experience is a major plus. Experience with Leica or other comparable systems will also be considered.
