Join our Data Collection Bureau
Support the District's Data Collection Bureau managing multiple tasks and priorities in fast-paced, team-oriented environment. The GIS Analyst provides GIS data collection, analysis, and visualization for the daily maintenance and presentation of geographic data. This position will perform technical research and analysis and will support important MGIS activities like GIS data QA/QC, geospatial analysis, ad-hoc map requests, GIS technical support, performing updates to data layers, and developing web and mobile mapping applications.

Starting Compensation:
GIS Analyst: $49,635.00 - $58,583.75
Staff GIS Analyst: $53,589.00 - $63,260.25

The starting salary range shown for the Data Analyst position reflects the minimum to 25% of the compensation possible for this paygrade. The starting salary will be based on the education and experience of the successful candidate. The District conducts annual performance evaluations that may award applicable pay increases based on positive employee performance.
Essential Functions
  • Provides GIS data collection, analysis, and visualization to support District initiatives.
  • Designs and develops online and mobile GIS applications for use by District staff.
  • Collaborates with Mapping and GIS Section Database Administrators to maintain and update feature classes in SDE.
  • Provides technical support for GIS software and tools to District staff.
  • Reviews and performs QA/QC on project deliverables (lidar, imagery, etc.) from consultants and completes ad-hoc requests.

Working Conditions
Employee works in a standard office environment. Occasional travel usually during the workday is required. Performs continuous repetitive tasks (to include keyboarding) with one or both hands. Occasionally lifts and carries objects up to 10 pounds. Occasionally requires bending and reaching above shoulder level. Fieldwork is a possibility, but not a requirement, and will likely be less than 10 days a year. Possible travel to other offices. Occasionally required to drive automotive vehicle for 2 hours or more at a time. Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions.
Employee may be subject to call-in outside of regularly scheduled work hours, or required to be on call, including on nights, weekends or holidays, to respond to emergency management activities or other incidents requiring rapid response in support of District operations.
Required Credentials for GIS Analyst
GIS Analyst
  • Bachelor's degree or equivalency in Geography, Environmental Science or related degree (or higher) and One (1) year related work experience
  • Valid driver's license

Staff GIS Analyst
  • Bachelor's degree or equivalency in Geography, Environmental Science or related degree (or higher) and Three (3) years related work experience
  • Valid driver's license

Preferred Credentials for GIS Analyst
  • Proficiency in the collection, analysis, and visualization of geospatial data with ArcGIS Pro.
  • Documented experience with ArcGIS Online.
  • Proficiency in developing mobile field applications using ArcGIS Survey123, Field Maps, and QuickCapture.
  • Ability to develop, configure, and manage engaging and effective web GIS applications using ArcGIS Experience Builder, Instant Apps, Dashboards, and StoryMaps.
  • Ability to collaborate with project teams to determine the best use of geospatial technologies for customer needs, accurately estimate the required effort, and oversee implementation through to completion.
  • Ability to approach every task, regardless of size or scope, as a chance to innovate traditional methods of data collection, management, visualization, and delivery.
  • Create clear, concise, and visually compelling cartographic outputs.
  • Balance creativity with adherence to District GIS standards and best practices.
  • Consistently maintain a high level of persistence and attention to quality in your work and in the work of others.
  • Actively participate in the GIS community, staying informed about industry trends, new tools and technologies, and growth opportunities.
  • Ability to adapt to changes in project schedules and scopes.
  • Advanced database design skills with the ability to perform complex data manipulation, transformation, load, quality assurance and documentation.
  • Experience editing SDE enterprise geodatabases, including maintenance, troubleshooting, and versioning.
  • Proficiency in SQL and Python including the ability to troubleshoot applications and processes.
  • Excellent problem-solving skills and the ability to work independently and in a team environment.
  • Experience documenting new and existing processes as well as updating documentation when needed.
  • Experience authoring and updating FDGC compliant metadata.
  • Certified GISCI Geographic Information Systems Professional (GISP) is preferred.

Additional Details
This position is typically scheduled to work 40 hours per week, Monday to Friday, out of the Brooksville, FL office, with the option to potentially work a portion of their time remotely after the first 6 months. This GIS Analyst is eligible for overtime for hours worked over 40 hours, in a week. The Staff GIS Analyst is eligible for compensatory time for hours worked over 40 hours, in a week.
Travel Required
Yes. Some travel may be required on rare occasions, using District vehicle, within District's coverage area.
