Job description

GIS Analyst:

Serves as the technical expert for the GIS Teams with direction from the GIS Coordinator. Responsible for data schemas, data structures, application development, GIS Web Services, data analysis and QA/QC of data managed in GIS. Evaluates new technology solutions and installs necessary GIS software for the Team and other Department users. Provides technical oversight for the work being done by Sr GIS Technicians and GIS Technicians. Produces ad-hoc reporting and map products as needed.
 
Responsibilities/core functions include, but are not limited to:
 
  • This position assists the GIS Coordinator in realizing a vision for optimal data management using GIS technologies.
  • Supports data-driven GIS applications and tools for the Street Transportation Department.
  • GIS data development, management, and design (Schemas, Domains, Database Design).
  • Creates and improves methods for data QA/QC for the Senior GIS Technicians and GIS Technicians to utilize.
  • Provides expertise regarding the deployment of the new products and services.
  • Creates and maintains Python scripts, ArcGIS ModelBuilder workflows, and assists with automated tasks that enhance efficiencies for the GIS team and department staff who edit GIS data.
  • Works with GIS programming languages (Arcade, Python, SQL, HTML, VBScript) to customize web applications, mapping features, custom geoprocessing tools, or any items that can improve our work, products, and deliverables.
  • This role has a thorough knowledge of ESRI GIS technologies and provides support/training for staff as needed.
  • Researches and troubleshoots complex issues.
  • Uses geoprocessing tools for intricate data analysis.
  • Creates web applications using the ArcGIS Online and ArcGIS Portal platforms and assists Senior GIS Technicians and GIS Technicians with more complex tasks for application development.
  • Publishes and maintains REST services for online applications.
  • Oversees publishing and ensures standards are being met.
  • Creates GIS Metadata, workflows, and training documentation.
  • Generates data reports and metrics as requested.
  • Assists GIS Manager with higher-level GIS tasks as needed.
