Job Description

An exciting opportunity has arisen for a HSE engineer in Machinery & Functional Safety to join Rolls Royce HSE SME Team.

As a member of the SME team, you will be a recognized as having knowledge in machinery safety especially regarding functional safety. You will contribute to Group and Functional strategies. You will be aware of regulatory changes and their impact upon the function and wider business, support the business teams including Maintenance, Operations, Capability Acquisition, Manufacturing Engineering teams and our service partners on HSE issues, provide HSE advice and support for the development and improvement of machinery safety specifically related to functional safety.

Your role will be to support our businesses on their Journey to Zero Harm through a range of services enabling you to deep dive into Risk, Assurance, and Compliance. In addition, you will support the machinery safety subject matter expert.

What you will be doing

With this attractive opportunity you will get a chance to:

  • Ensure HS&E critical controls and risks are identified and communicated in the installation and maintenance of equipment. Seek out significant business changes and support the sites/businesses in ensuring effective management of change is applied
  • Support the business to develop an Asset Management Policy to reflect the lifecycle requirements of systems & assets.                                                                       
  • Support the audit program to ensure all Assets are managed & maintained in accordance with Legislation and Company standards                                             
  • To provide HSE Machinery Safety advice and support across the business                                                          
  • Support all SME Team activity as required.                                                      
  • Take lead on delivery of elements of the Machinery Safety Improvements                                                                                                           
  • Support incident investigations as required. Ensure learning is shared across the sites/businesses/group and learnings from elsewhere are considered to develop robust improvement plans. Facilitate and lead communication forums (Communities of Practice) relating to your high consequence hazardous discipline                                                 
  • Update, maintain and communicate HSE Standards and legal compliance requirements and support site and business assurance programs.
  • Identify, prioritize and engage with HS&E stakeholders relevant to your topic.
  • Use good communications practices to support improvement, influence and change both internally and externally.
  • Provide HSE advice and support for projects across all the Rolls-Royce businesses guiding them on best practice and legal compliance. Support Capability Acquisition to ensure robust processes are developed and followed to ensure machinery projects are delivered in compliance with legislation and company standards.        
  • Global travel is required
Qualifications

Basic Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering (Mechanical or electrical) OR
  • HSE qualification (NEBOSH general Certificate)
  • 2+ years of experience in machinery and functional safety,

Preferred Requirements:

  • Relevant experience in an asset maintenance or management.
  • Understanding of global legislation, standards and developing best practice.
  • Proven track record working with Production plant maintenance through to asset life cycle, including specifications for new capabilities.                                            
  • Excellent communication and presentation skills with the ability to influence and gain agreement for complex or impacting programs of work.                                                      
  • Knowledge of the business specific risks and industry approaches advantageous.                                              
  • Commitment to drive continuous improvement.
