Position Summary
The Director of Youth & Teen Programs leads the Indy Art Center's classes, camps, and other arts learning experiences for youth ages 2-18. This position develops and manages high-quality programming, supports teaching artists and program staff, evaluates program effectiveness, and works collaboratively across departments and locations to create engaging experiences for youth and teens.
What You'll Do
Program Leadership & Development
  • Develop, manage, and evaluate youth and teen classes, camps, and programs across Fall, Spring, and Summer semesters.
  • Identify opportunities for program growth based on enrollment trends, community needs, participant feedback, and best practices in arts education.
  • Maintain high standards for curriculum, instruction, student experience, and program delivery.
  • Develop and maintain policies and procedures that support safe and effective youth and teen programming.
  • Conduct program observations and use enrollment data and participant feedback to evaluate and improve programs.

Faculty & Camp Leadership
  • Recruit, supervise, and support teaching artists associated with youth and teen programming.
  • Provide year-round planning and oversight for summer camps, including offerings, schedules, staffing, curriculum expectations, and operations.
  • Supervise camp leadership and support effective communication among instructors, staff, students, and families.
  • Foster a positive, collaborative, inclusive, and student-centered culture among faculty and staff.

Partnerships & Collaboration
  • Build relationships with schools, community partners, and other organizations to expand participation in youth and teen programming.
  • Work collaboratively with the EVP of Education + Innovation, Education staff, and other departments on shared initiatives and organizational goals.
  • Partner with Marketing to promote youth and teen programs.
  • Assist with program reporting, planning, and budgeting as needed.
  • Support major Indy Art Center events and initiatives as needed.

Qualifications
  • A combination of education, training and experience equivalent to an undergraduate degree in art, education, arts administration, youth development, or a related field.
  • Experience working with youth in an arts, education, camp, nonprofit, museum, community, or similar setting.
  • Knowledge of curriculum development and age-appropriate learning experiences for children and teens.
  • Strong organizational and project management skills with the ability to manage multiple programs and priorities.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills and the ability to work effectively with teaching artists, staff, students, families, schools, and community partners.
  • Commitment to creating inclusive, welcoming, and student-centered learning environments.
  • Familiarity with visual arts and studio practices.
  • Comfort using Microsoft Office, scheduling, and other program-management systems.
  • Previous experience coordinating programs, projects, events, or classes.
  • K-12 teaching or supervisory experience is a plus.

Physical Requirements & Working Conditions
  • Works primarily in office, classroom, and studio environments.
  • Regular business hours with some evening and weekend work required based on program schedules.
  • Occasional physical activity associated with preparing program spaces and moving art materials and supplies.
  • Must be able to move throughout Art Center facilities and communicate effectively verbally and in writing.
