Fulltime Software Developer information

What is a fulltime software developer?

Fulltime Software Developers are professionals who design, build, test, and maintain software applications as their primary occupation. They work for companies or organizations on a standard full-time schedule, typically 40 hours per week. Their responsibilities can include writing code, troubleshooting issues, collaborating with other team members, and staying updated with new technologies. Fulltime roles often provide benefits such as health insurance, paid time off, and opportunities for career advancement.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a fulltime software developer?

To thrive as a Fulltime Software Developer, you need proficiency in programming languages (such as Java, Python, or JavaScript), problem-solving abilities, and typically a degree in computer science or a related field. Familiarity with development frameworks, version control systems like Git, and experience with tools such as IDEs and CI/CD pipelines are commonly required. Strong communication, teamwork, and adaptability are crucial soft skills that help developers collaborate effectively and respond to changing project needs. These skills ensure high-quality, maintainable code and successful project delivery in dynamic development environments.

What are some common challenges faced by fulltime software developers in agile teams, and how can they be addressed?

One common challenge for fulltime software developers working in agile teams is balancing the need for rapid iteration with maintaining high code quality. Developers often face tight deadlines for sprint deliverables, which can sometimes lead to technical debt if not carefully managed. Effective communication with team members, regular code reviews, and adopting automated testing practices can help mitigate these issues. Additionally, being proactive in sprint planning and retrospective meetings allows developers to voice concerns and collaboratively find solutions, making the work environment more supportive and productive.

Role Overview:

ProAg has an exciting opportunity for a Software Engineer II to join our team. We are looking for engineers who are passionate about building software that is intuitive, reliable, and among the easiest and most efficient inthe industry. Bring your passion for innovation to an Agile environment where you'll help deliver high-quality software solutions that serve our farmers, agents, and reinsurance partners.

We're looking for an engineer who is energized by solving problems, enjoys learning, and takes pride in delivering high-quality solutions that create real business value. Success in this role comes from curiosity, ownership, collaboration, consistent delivery, and a commitment to continuous improvement.

As a Software Engineer II, you'll work as an active member of an experienced development team throughout the full software development lifecycle. • Take ownership of assigned features and technical problems from investigation through implementation and delivery.
  • Participate in the full Software Development Life Cycle (SDLC), including planning, design, development, testing, deployment, and production support.
  • Develop software solutions that deliver business value, meet quality standards, are completed on time, and minimize unnecessary technical debt.
  • Analyze requirements and contribute to technical design and implementation decisions.
  • Collaborate with business analysts, quality assurance engineers, architects, and fellow developers to develop practical and maintainable solutions.
  • Participate actively in code reviews, providing thoughtful feedback and incorporating feedback from teammates.
  • Troubleshoot and debug application issues by investigating root causes rather than simply addressing symptoms.
  • Identify technical concerns, risks, or potential roadblocks early and communicate them effectively to the team.
  • Research unfamiliar technologies and technical problems and apply what you learn to develop effective solutions.
  • Communicate technical concepts effectively with both technical and non-technical stakeholders.
  • Contribute to improving development practices, application quality, team effectiveness, and overall engineering standards.
  • Continue developing your technical skills while sharing knowledge and lessons learned with teammates.

What You Bring:

  • Approximately 3-5 years of relevant professional software development experience, or equivalent demonstrated experience.
  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or a related field, or equivalent education and professional experience.
  • Working knowledge and hands-on experience with:C#, .NET, Reactand TypeScript
  • Experience designing and consuming REST APIs.
  • Experience with SQL Server or other relational databases.
  • Experience using Git or other source control systems.
  • Understanding of object-oriented design principles and software development best practices.
  • Experience troubleshooting and debugging software applications.
  • Ability to understand business requirements and translate them into technical solutions.
  • Ability to communicate effectively with both technical and non-technical colleagues.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience working in an Agile/Scrum development environment.
  • Familiarity with Azure DevOps or similar development lifecycle tools.
  • Experience developing automated unit and integration tests.
  • Exposure to AWS or other cloud platforms.
  • Experience using AI-assisted development tools such as GitHub Copilot or ChatGPT.
  • Experience supporting and troubleshooting enterprise applications.

What We Offer:

  • Competitive salary and comprehensive benefit package
  • Strong learning culture with ongoing development opportunities
  • Opportunities for growth and career advancement
  • Comprehensive medical, vision, and dental coverage, with eligibility beginning on your first day of employment
  • Basic life and disability insurance
  • 401(k) plan with 6% company match
  • 20 days of PTO, three floating holidays, approximately 10 paid holidays, and volunteer time off
  • Paid parental leave
  • Access to our award-winning wellness program, including mental health services, fitness network membership, and a complimentary Headspace subscription
