Job description

Senior Newsletter Editor, US
Daily Mail - Global Newsletters
Department: US Newsletters
Location: Onsite, Daily Mail, 51 Astor Place, New York City
Reports to: US Head of Newsletters & Standards
Job type: Full-time
Salary: $105,000 - $120,000 per year
About Us
The Daily Mail reaches more than a billion people globally every month. Renowned for its agenda-setting exclusives, breaking news, incisive commentary and in-depth investigations, we deliver a unique editorial blend spanning news, politics, showbiz, royals, lifestyle, health, sport and money.
Our reach, influence and reader loyalty make us a premium destination for more than 300,000 digital subscribers across the US, UK, Australia and beyond. We also maintain a powerful presence across social media, engaging more than 150 million followers and delivering more than six billion video views each month across Facebook, TikTok, Instagram, YouTube and Snapchat.
About the Role
We are looking for an outstanding editor with sharp news judgment and a real feel for what makes a Daily Mail story - someone who can look at everything the newsroom has published in a day and know instantly which three stories a reader will actually open an email for, and how to sell them.
The Senior Newsletter Editor, US is a hands-on role at the center of our fast-growing US newsletter portfolio, supporting the Daily Mail's ambition to reach one million global newsletter subscribers by 2028. You will be responsible for the day-to-day editing, curation and production of multiple newsletters, and help shape what we launch next.
You do not need to have spent years working on newsletters, or any time at all. Newsletter and email-platform experience is genuinely useful and we will take it into account - but we would far rather hire a first-class journalist and teach them Sailthru than hire a Sailthru operator and hope they develop news instincts. If you have run a busy news desk, edited a homepage, or built a following for a section or a beat, we want to hear from you.
You will work closely with the US Head of Newsletters & Standards, newsroom editors and reporters, the audience team and UK colleagues.
About What You'll Do
Editorial judgment and craft
• Help choose, order and frame the stories that go into each newsletter - the core of the job.
• Write subject lines, headlines and display copy with wit, urgency and accuracy.
• Edit and rewrite copy to the Daily Mail's standards, tone and legal safety, at speed.
• React to breaking news: know when to tear up a scheduled send and when to hold.
• Maintain exceptional quality through rigorous proofreading and fact-checking.
Production and delivery
• Build, schedule, test and deploy newsletters using Sailthru (training provided where needed).
• Manage templates, segmentation, dynamic content and list hygiene.
• Run A/B tests on subject lines, send times and creative treatments.
• Troubleshoot production issues and ensure every send lands on time.
Strategy and growth
• Help develop, launch and relaunch newsletters, including positioning, format and voice.
• Propose new newsletter concepts grounded in newsroom strengths and audience demand.
• Drive subscriber growth, engagement and retention.
Performance and analytics
• Track open rate, CTR, CTOR, subscriber growth, engagement and retention.
• Turn performance data into clear, actionable editorial decisions.
Collaboration
• Partner with newsroom editors, reporters and the audience team to surface the strongest stories.
• Work with product, commercial and UK newsletter colleagues on shared initiatives.
• Help coordinate newsletter schedules and workflows across teams.
About You
You are a journalist who thinks like an editor and cares about readers. You can spot the story that will travel, write a subject line that earns the open, and hold a high standard under deadline pressure. You are curious about data and willing to let it change your mind, organized enough to run several products at once, and generous with colleagues.
Essential
• Substantial experience as a journalist or editor at a national news organisation or major digital publisher.
• Outstanding news judgment and a strong instinct for what a mass audience will read.
• Exceptional writing, editing, headline and proofreading skills.
• Proven ability to work accurately and calmly to tight, repeated deadlines.
• Comfort with audience and performance data, and a willingness to act on it.
• Confidence with digital publishing tools, and the aptitude to master an enterprise email platform quickly.
• Strong organizational, communication and diplomacy/stakeholder-management skills.
• Passion for the Daily Mail brand, its editorial voice and global audience.
Desirable
• Experience producing or editing editorial newsletters.
• Hands-on use of Sailthru, Braze, Iterable, Salesforce Marketing Cloud, Campaign Monitor or Adobe Campaign.
• Experience launching or relaunching a newsletter product.
• Knowledge of email best practice, deliverability and audience segmentation.
• Understanding of A/B testing methodology.
• Familiarity with Google Analytics, Parse.ly, Chartbeat or similar.
• Experience of subscription and audience-acquisition strategy.
Why Join The Daily Mail?
You will be part of one of the world's largest digital news publishers, working on a fast-growing newsletter portfolio that reaches millions of readers. It is a chance to shape editorial products from the ground up, work alongside experienced journalists, and put your judgment in front of a very large audience every day.
About What We Offer
• The opportunity to work for one of the world's most recognized news brands.
• A fast-paced, collaborative newsroom.
• Competitive salary and comprehensive benefits.
• Health, dental, vision, life insurance and 401(k).
• Generous paid time off.
• Professional development opportunities.
• The chance to shape stories read by millions of readers worldwide.

Daily Mail US is an Equal Opportunity Employer. We are committed to fostering diversity and maintaining an inclusive workplace culture, and we welcome applications from all qualified candidates regardless of ethnicity, race, gender, religious belief, sexual orientation, age, marital status or disability.
