Job description

R&D / Technical Support Specialist 

Location:  CSC Building, Mount Holly, NC 
Company:  American & Efird (A&E) 
Job Type:  Full-Time | Onsite 

 Hours:  Monday – Friday, 8:00am – 5:00pm 

 

Position Overview 

This role provides leadership and direction for the development of new raw materials, process improvements, and technical solutions that enhance product quality, efficiency, and cost performance. You will collaborate cross-functionally with operations, engineering, quality, sales, suppliers, and customers to bring initiatives from concept to implementation. 

What You’ll Do 

  • Partner with operations to evaluate current manufacturing processes and implement improvements in quality, efficiency, and cost 
  • Identify, develop, and qualify new raw materials and inputs to expand A&E’s capabilities  
  • Collaborate with quality teams to establish and test fiber specifications and product qualifications  
  • Lead and execute continuous improvement initiatives across global business segments  
  • Analyze manufacturing performance to improve machine efficiency and reduce waste  
  • Evaluate emerging technologies and equipment vendors in partnership with corporate engineering  
  • Support Sales by assisting with new business development, customer retention, and issue resolution  
  • Educate customers on fiber characteristics, thread construction, and product performance  
  • Perform additional duties as required to support business objectives 

What We’re Looking For 

Required Qualifications 

  • Bachelor’s degree in Quality Engineering, Process Engineering, or a related field  
  • Minimum of 2+ years of experience in product and process improvement within a manufacturing environment  
  • Lean Six Sigma Green Belt or Black Belt (or willingness to obtain)  
  • Experience with customer-facing problem resolution, including 8D methodology and root cause analysis  
  • Textile industry experience preferred (sewing thread manufacturing strongly preferred)  
  • Working knowledge of sewing processes is a plus  
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint)  
  • Proven ability to coach and train others in quality and continuous improvement tools
