The BI Migration Lead will own the end-to-end strategy and execution for migrating legacy BI platforms (IBM Cognos / Tableau) to Power BI. This role combines hands-on technical leadership, data modeling expertise, and stakeholder communication, ensuring scalable, governed, and high-performance BI solutions aligned with business objectives.
Key Responsibilities
Cognos & Legacy BI Expertise
  • Provide advanced hands-on expertise with IBM Cognos Analytics 11.x, including:
    • Report Studio
    • Analysis Studio
    • Event Studio
    • Framework Manager
    • Dynamic Cubes
    • Transformer
  • Design and maintain complex dashboards, multidimensional reports, visualizations, and report bursting
  • Support and rationalize legacy environments including:
    • Cognos Series 6 → Cognos 8/10/11

BI Migration & Modernization
  • Define and document the end-to-end migration strategy for transitioning:
    • IBM Cognos → Power BI
    • Tableau → Power BI
  • Convert legacy Cognos/Tableau reports to Power BI:
    • Business logic conversion
    • Semantic layer redesign
    • Visualization modernization
  • Assess existing BI landscapes, identify dependencies, risks, and mitigation plans
  • Create detailed migration playbooks, technical documentation, and user guides

Power BI Architecture & Governance
  • Design scalable and secure Power BI architecture, including:
    • Datasets
    • Dataflows
    • Gateways
    • Workspace design and management
  • Establish best practices for:
    • Data modeling
    • Performance optimization
    • Governance and lifecycle management
  • Implement Row-Level Security (RLS) and manage user roles and access
  • Recommend improvements for long-term scalability and maintainability

Data Modeling & Engineering
  • Design and build dimensional models:
    • Star schema
    • Snowflake schema
    • Semantic models for BI
  • Strong experience with:
    • Relational modeling
    • Data warehouse layers
  • Hands-on involvement in:
    • ETL processes
    • Data mapping
    • Data transformation
  • Document end-to-end data flows

Data Quality & Validation
  • Perform deep data profiling, validation, cleansing, and quality checks
  • Ensure consistency between legacy and modern BI outputs
