Position Overview:
The Illinois Department of Veterans Affairs is seeking to hire a Storekeeper I at the Manteno Veterans' Home. This position is responsible for supporting inventory control, storekeeping operations, and the maintenance of accurate records related to supplies and materials used throughout the facility. The ideal candidate will possess strong organizational skills, attention to detail, and the ability to maintain efficient inventory and recordkeeping processes in a fast-paced environment. Essential Functions:
  • Under general supervision of the Storekeeper III, processes a variety of general, industrial, mechanical, or office supply items.
  • Assembles, packs, transports, or arranges for transporting of requisitioned goods or materials to facility staff.
  • Estimates stock needs and notifies Storekeeper III of stock replacement as required.
  • Oversees General Store operations in the absence of the Storekeeper III.
  • Maintains a clean and efficient environment within the General Stores area.
  • Inspect received shipments for damages, expiration dates, accurate items, and quantity.
  • Performs other duties as required or assigned which are reasonably with the scope of the duties enumerated above.

Minimum Qualifications:
  • Requires knowledge, skill, and mental development equivalent to completion of four (4) years high school.
  • Requires one (1) year experience in the keeping of stores and stores records.

Preferred Qualifications:
  • Prefers through knowledge of the rules and regulations of the State Property Control Act.
  • Prefers ability to plan, organize, and supervise the activities of the property control personnel.
  • Prefers ability to interpret and evaluate property assets, their depreciation, and condemnation.
  • Prefers ability to maintain accurate records and prepare accurate inventory reports.
  • Prefers ability to maintain satisfactory working relationships with department staff and subordinates.

Conditions of Employment:
  • Requires ability to pass a background check.
  • Requires ability to pass a drug screen and pre-employment physical.
  • Requires ability to meet all agency vaccine/health-related policies and guidance.
  • Requires ability acquire and maintain Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) certificate.
  • Requires the ability to utilize office equipment, including personal computers.
  • Requires ability to attend seminars, conferences, and trainings to stay current on methods, tools, ideologies, or other industry related topics relevant to the job duties.
  • Requires ability to travel in the performance of duties, with overnight stays as appropriate. Requires appropriate, valid drivers license.
  • This position is considered heavy work as defined by the U.S. Department of Labor (20 CFR 404.1567(d)). Heavy work involves lifting no more than 100 pounds at a time with frequent lifting or carrying of objects weighing up to 50 pounds.
  • This position has been found to meet the requirements in section 4A-101 of the Illinois Governmental Ethics Act requiring the occupant/employee to file a Statement of Economic Interest. The Illinois Governmental Ethics Act (5 ILCS 420/4A et seq.) requires certain state officials and employees to file annual Statements of Economic Interest with the Office of the Secretary of State that will be made available for examination and copying by the public. All employees required to file a Statement of Economic Interest are also required to file the Supplemental Statement of Economic Interest with Executive Ethics Commission. (See Executive Order 15-09) Fines and penalties apply to untimely filings.
  • Overtime is a condition of employment, and you may be requested or required/mandated to work overtime including scheduled, unscheduled, or last-minute overtime. This requires the ability to work evenings and weekends.
