Description
The Stage Technician 2 position will provide technical support and run of show for all Bishop Center for Performing Arts events, including outside performing acts, departmental performances and dress rehearsals, student events, outreach, theatrical productions, etc. They will manage inventory and stock of supplies related to theatre and music productions and track and perform maintenance projects related to the theatre. They will lead other personnel and volunteers in projects related to productions.
This is a full-time position. Due to varying performance and event schedules, work hours will fluctuate throughout the year. Periods leading up to and during performances or events may require extended hours, while workloads may be lighter between events. As a result, work schedules and hours may be flexed as needed and will require flexibility.

Full-time employees will also receive 11.33 hours of vacation leave per month to start, 8 hours of sick leave per month, and 4 personal leave days a year. Essential Duties and Responsibilities
Stage Technician for Shows and Events
  • Communicate with supervisor, directors and/or outside acts about technical needs.
  • Communicate with supervisor about scheduling needed custodial, grounds, or standard building maintenance in advance of scheduled events.
  • Coordinate with sound technician.
  • Run light or sound board as needed.
  • Act as lead for other technical personnel including students and volunteers while always emphasizing safety.
  • As schedule allows, provide technical support for other on campus events.
Production Team Lead
  • Communicate and coordinate with directors, supervisor, and sound engineer to help develop and execute a plan regarding technical needs for specific productions.
  • Act as lead for production teams/contractors related to technical theatre.
  • Design and implement lighting to meet the production needs and/or lead and assist with the hanging, circuiting, and focusing of stage lighting equipment according to a designer's light plot.
  • Assist with load in and load out for outside acts.
  • Lead the set-in, running, strike and disposal or storage of all scenery for stage productions with an emphasis on safety and reuse of materials.
Maintenance and Inventory
  • Maintain and track stock of stage lighting equipment, shop inventory, and sound equipment.
  • Conduct maintenance and adjustment of all stage equipment and on-stage lighting instruments and related equipment in accordance with existing safety regulations.
  • Work with supervisor and sound engineer to plan and schedule maintenance and equipment replacements as required.
  • Track and help schedule larger maintenance and replacement projects with supervisor and heads of the music and theatre departments.
  • Communicate with supervisor and Campus Operations concerning maintenance or safety concerns.
  • Assist with tracking equipment and props loaned to local theatres.
The majority of this position will be self-directed so it will require an ability to be self-motivated and remain on task to complete work, while also accommodating for the set schedule of events. For larger theatrical productions, it will require close collaborations with production team members. This position will need to be able to effectively keep projects on task and lead team personnel while emphasizing safety and meeting deadlines. For smaller events, this person will coordinate with only their supervisor and sound engineer to discuss the best way to run the show.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
  • Two years of experience as a Stage Technician 1 OR Equivalent technical experience in a professional or community theatre setting
  • Theatrical lighting experience
  • Sound board experience
  • Self-starter with the ability to work independently with minimal direct supervision
  • Ability to communicate clearly and professionally with diverse groups, audiences and stakeholders
  • Experience leading a team
DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS:
  • Technical theatre leadership
  • Small theatre experience (production team, stage management, directing, design, etc);
  • Construction or set building experience
  • Associate degree.
